Who do you think of when you see the name Phelps?

I chose the swimmer. I would have probably remembered him from the Olympics anyway, but I mostly remember being annoyed at all the "world's greatest athlete" accolades he received at the time. Of the people who have won the most Olympic medals, the majority are either swimmers or gymnasts--it's in the nature of their sport that they are able to win so many medals. Then there's the bong incident.

My second thought would have probably been Phelps Dodge, if you hadn't reminded me of Mr. Phelps from MI.

I'm gay. To me, Phelps will always be synonymous with those wackos with the signs telling me I'm going to hell. I try not to think too hard on it.

Maybe they can do a triple feature where they do Mission Impossible with a cameo by Peter Graves, Batman with a cameo by Adam West, and Star Trek with a Shatner cameo. Then everybody wins!

Unfortunately, I think of the preacher. Maybe it's the fact that I'm gay that explains why I think of him. That guy pisses the hell out of me.

First thing I thought of was former Major League baseball player Ken Phelps.

I'm not going to try to justify this and say it is somehow the best or even a semi-reasonable Phelps to default to. But that's where my brain went.

Then I remembered swimmer Michael Phelps. It makes so much more sense to think of him before Ken Phelps - but try telling that to my brain.

Oh, no. MICHAEL Phelps is perfectly fine. It's Fred Phelps and family that's the problem.

The preacher, I have heard about him even before I heard about the swimmer and I really don't see all the hype about the swimmer while the preacher freightens me...
