NON SPOILER NO WORRIES :)

So,

I broke down and saw G.I. Joe yesterday.

I was surprised, the theater I went to wasn't packed to the gills. So I'm not sure how it is going to do.

But overall, I felt that G.I. Joe was pretty much everything TROTF should have been.

As for story, it was o.k. A few plot holes but at the same time the movie had a fun feel to it allowing for my suspense of disbelief to overlook the plot holes.

The action was decent and they managed to work in all the corny phrases.

My only beef was towards the end when they decided to give the make-up artists the day off and go with a gradeschool craft class doing their make-up / costume design.

Special effects were of course decent.

So, if I were grading this film given that the audience IMHO is the YA market, i'd give G.I. Joe a 'B-'.

So...its a big, dumb, loud action movie, but it DOES NOT make you want to die when you watch it?

Interesting...

I have no big desire to see it except my friend Jim worked on the movie -- he was in set design. So I'll see it tomorrow just to show my support. :)

I liked it ... but then again ... I am an action junkie ;) and I like to see stuff blow up.

Not only that but going to the movies is one of my favorite pastimes -- some movies I go to for depth, others are just for fun. My expectations of GI Joe were very low, so I enjoyed the ride, then left the mantinee hyped and ready for my next action adventure...

I hated this movie. I was drug into this movie last night by my friends and was very disappointed in it. It started out good but slowly got stupider and stupider. One of the main actors in this movie, Channing Tatum, was horrible at acting and showing emotion in this movie. His acting was as good as my great grandfathers juggling act, he is armless by the way. The "special effects" of the vehicles reminded me of the graphics from a vehicle in the video game, Halo. All in all, I would give this movie a 4/10. Just one guys opinion.

Don't need another childhood toy ruined. Thanks, but no.

No amount of Snake Eyes can make me enjoy this movie.

G. I. Joe didn't make my brain hurt like Transformers 2.

It didn't make me care, either.

Is there enough Christopher Eccelston (yum) to warrant $8.50, or should I wait for the DVD?
Wait for the DVD, if that. Eccelston's okay, though, compared to the rest of the film.

I have no intention of watching this in theatres, but I have to ask...

How much Snow Job was there? I realize he's, like, the Aquaman of the Joes... but he was always my favorite.

I thought that was Shipwreck - the Roddy Piper of GI Joe.

Yeah,

there are about 40 or so G.I. Joe / Cobra characters if memory serves,

but the movie only features around 10 of them

It's certainly not as bad as Transformers, but that's not really saying much...

Hurt Locker, however, looks extraordinary. If you have $10 to spend and you want to see an intense film with explosions and stuff... go see that one instead.

Yes, we all like our action films... but that doesn't mean we have to be dumb.

I keep hearing about this Hurt Locker and I haven't even seen a preview of it. Unfortunately, audio on my computer is broken :(

I'll check it out after I see District 9

How much did they need to gross domestically for an automatic greenlight? 200 mill?

Maestrowork would have a better sense of this question.

My guess is that they at least have to break even.

If they can't do that, I can't see greenlighting a sequel anytime soon.

So far, I think they will not do it at the box office. I think with DvD sales, and release to cable, they may make up the difference and break even but just barely.

Counting the television series, the animated film, the Marvel comics (and the newer comics), plus cross-overs with Transformers and other properties, there are probably closer to 150 characters.
