Denied!

Have you ever been denied something you were sure you'd get?

Like... oh, I don't know... posting privileges to a place that seems to let hundreds of other people post with no visible criteria?

I thought it'd be the usual routine registration, but no, I got turned down.

I'm wondering if it was because I didn't have an avatar when I applied.

It's a livejournal community, in case anyone's curious. On the plus side, I just checked my email and found out I'd won a book in a contest. Whee! I do not altogether stink. I shall not go out into the garden and eat worms.

Because it's a livejournal community? But they've accepted lots of other people.

I need a smiley of someone on the outside looking in.

I guess I'm just bothered because I've never been denied access to an online community. And I've been part of a lot of them.

The Internet Infidels, Rants 'n' Raves, Civilization Fanatics Forums, God Awful Fan Fiction, AW, Why God Why, Fanfiction.net, even a private message board where mostly PA authors used to post (I say "used to" because most of them drifted away from PA). Plus a couple of boards I could not remember even after trying really hard. One of them has a cartoon rat in its logo... shoot. So I'm not sure why I'm being turned down.

This is probably going to sound dull and unimaginative, but for some reason I created the account with my initials and last name. So it's mdperera.

I don't know if that sounds like a spambot or not. Does it?

Do you have interests in your profile that chime with the community? Do you have at least one public post so they can see you are real and not a Russian spam bot?

I have posts on my LiveJournal account - I originally started it so I'd have a place to write about things that weren't blog-related, and I'm pretty sure it's public. Someone I knew read it (and I didn't friend her since I haven't yet figured out how to do that).

Good advice on checking the interests in my profile, though. I'll do that tomorrow.
