(mods, feel free to move this if it's better suited to another forum)
A few months ago, a publisher merged with another and my contract ended up being terminated by the new company. Not the end of the world, I decided to rework the book anyway, etc. Life goes on. (And a bit of a blessing in disguise, since the book is turning out better now)
My question...we signed the official "termination of contract" paperwork a while back (June, I think), but it said that, essentially, my rights wouldn't be returned to me until Sept 1. (The book was never released...we signed the original contract, but there was never a release date, editing, etc)
Is this customary when a contract is terminated?
I won't be querying the book until after Sept 1 anyway, so it's a moot point, but I'm curious for my own future reference if this is standard or if it's unusual.
Any thoughts?
