I'm sure this has been done before, but there's been such a turnover lately I thought I'd update the stats.
The poll is: what's your genre, the one you write in most often and hope to be one day considered a master at?

My genre isn't in the poll. :(

ETA: No, wait. I just spotted the 'other' option.

Fantasy and science fiction might have been better off as a single option. Most of us who write one also write the other.

Historical fiction, mainly and, so far, without success.

I have MGD. Multiple Genre Disorder. I write most genres, have essays and short stories and poems pubbed in romance, religious, literary, childrens, middle grade, and YA magazines, and doubt I'll ever master one completely. I'm having too much fun! Besides, it's the cure-all for writer's block.

If you're in the Other category, just put down what it is. Maybe I can do an informal hand count after a while on what these other categories are. Also, if you write in more than one genre, you can always vote more than once.

I voted Mainstream because it's more attainable than the goal of my fantasies, which is literary fiction.

I genre-hopped for years. I tried on mainstream, chick-lit, YA, a few others for size and while I could shove my stories into any of those categories, none felt just right.

Turns out I write erotic romance. And erotic UF. So yeah, put me down as 'erotica'.

No, I'm not kidding. I thought one story was YA, turns out it's erotic UF. I was as surprised as you are. :D

YA, so far, but I badly want to try both thrillers and historicals.

Mostly fantasy (when I actually sit down and figure them all out I'll let you know which subgenres ;) lol) and right now working on a vampire story, so paranormal also.

Anyway, I chose YA, but I write YA, non-YA, fantasy, and sci-fi.

I had something for this...
Well, if we're going to pigeonhole (control yourself Peaches) I'd put myself in the 'Mainstream' genre I suppose.

Although in the broader sense my work would be classified as 'Crap'.

I primarily write fantasy (usually dark fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal) and horror, with occasional ventures into SF.

Behind you! Boo.
I write fiction for the wimmen folk.

Not romance (I'm too cynical, sadly) but mainstream-y women's fiction.

Magical Realism and Satire. Together, as one genre. I know, I know... hey, that's what my brain gives me; can't help it :D

Yup

Fantasy romance, fantasy, romance, humour, SFF, mystery / thriller , historical. I got called almost literary a couple of times too.

Basically, what have you got? I write the genre the story requires.
