Man of substance - what does the phrase mean?

Perhaps a man who achieves voluminous and frequent orgasms?

I believe a man of substance is a decent/noble/upstanding man. The opposite of vacuous.

The opposite of vacuous is good! Also, not superficial, I think. Does 'vacuous' cover superficial? If it doesn't then add that

It can mean "a man of strong character" and it can also mean "a man with lots of money and professional success."

The title of Barbara Taylor Bradford's book A Woman of Substance plays on both meanings: her heroine is a strong character who amasses a considerable fortune.

Ok, I'll admit I'm an old timer, but when I've seen it used it was in reference to someone of character, true grit (e.g not shallow). A person of honor, that you trust, that when you look at them you don't feel a chill run down your back that they speak out of both sides of their mouth. Examples (to me) would be Heston, Reagan, my dad, oh, and of course, all my heroes (g).

A man with a big beer belly, or a really stuffed wallet. Or, in pornography, a well-filled basket.

A man of good reputation and solid financial standing

I can't add too much more than what has already been said. A man of great character is about as close as it gets.
