The smell of opium

I think this is one of those areas where you can fake it. I would think it'd smell like hash.

It smells like burning maple syrup, with a slightly flowery overtone.

It smelled sweet and kind of musky, like incense--if I recall correctly. Been a long time since I smelled it. Wish I had some right now, I'd light it up and give you a detailed description

No, not at all like hash. Much sweeter. The smoke is surprisingly smooth to inhale, and didn't taste as good and sweet as it smelled.

'Round these parts, it is smoked combined with hash. I've never smelled it alone.

Often has a vinegary scent (I'm told)

Can anyone describe it? Opium gum - the raw stuff from which morphine is made. Sweet and resinous and earthy all at the same time ... headache inducing after a few hours.


Or the smell of its smoke? Sorry, we were working with it, but the feds wouldn't let us light up and inhale. It's reported smoky with a sickly sweet overtone to it.

I don't have the book with me at the moment, but I was actually just reading about poppy and opium. There's several pages of amazing descriptions.

We burned a poppy farm in '03 I think....if you can call it a farm...in 'Stan with some Canuks...I think from the Royal Canuk Reg. One of them said it reminded him of syrup. Others said it had a flowerly(sp?) smell....it was sweet, hazey....to me it had a stink, an old ladie's perfume stink with a hint of jasmine. It curled my nose and made me gag.
