Zody's - SF Area - Do You Remember?

Was Zody's - a discount department store chain - ever located in San Francisco, and if so, was it considered uncool to shop there? In Los Angeles, nobody I knew ever admitted that their parents shopped at Zody's, and 'Your Mama shops at Zody's' were nasty enough words to start a fight on the playground.

I grew up in the Bay Area (in the 70's) and don't remember Zody's.

The discount stores I remember are KMart, Gemco and Parkview Gem. I bought most of my Cherry Ames books at Parkview Gem. I wish I knew what had happened to those books! I loved them.

Thanks! We had Gemco here too. I just gave away a sweater I bought in 1986 when the last Gemco in Los Angeles closed.
