When you are doing dialogue, does the period/question mark or other punctuation go inside or outside the quotes?

It goes inside, like:
"Jane, get back here!" or "I've never met such an interesting yet terrifying child." or "Have you seen my jacket?"
And so on.
"Jane, get back here!" or "I've never met such an interesting yet terrifying child." or "Have you seen my jacket?"

I'd like to piggyback on Marla's post. When adding dialogue tags it would read
"Jane, get back here!" said blank.
"I've never met such an interesting yet terrifying child," said blank.
"Have you seen my jacket?" said blank.
"Jane, get back here!" said blank.
"I've never met such an interesting yet terrifying child," said blank.
"Have you seen my jacket?" said blank.
