Okay so like, you are thinking...well Kim, that's nothing new. *shut up*

But I'm trying to figure out this whole resume thing. Yeah. THAT thing.

And here I am this HR specialist but that doesn't mean that I write them all freaking day long.

So here's my dilemma. I'm meant to state a job objective in about five to six words. I mean...5-6 words!

Oh man. And I am struggling not to put: cuz i needz werk, man!

Someone please help me!?

I need to not sound like the moron I'm beginning to think I am.

Uh, and thanks, in advance.

Here are the things I want in a job:
Stability
Challenges
To learn new things
Use my abilities this one's a given.
decent pay
benefits

Does that help?

So:

Challenge
New experiences
Competitive Pay
Benefits

We need to find a better way to say "Competitive Pay" -- or maybe not

To travel or not to travel?

And, I'm not in HR, so we need some professional help here. Anybody? Anyone? Buehler?

Seeking a position that utilizes my experience and abilities while facing new challenges.

meh...see I suck at this.

Honestly, I'd draft a bunch of different ones based on field - because something that general and personal feels like the agent bait lines in queries that say, "I read on your blog you accept email queries, so I decided to query you."

Anyway to categorize the fields you are looking in and then more specifically tailor it?

It isn't so much that you have to be in HR to know how to write this, obviously it's not helping me but I have to say something that will be attention getting but invisible almost.

The thing is, I had removed the objective part off my resume but this site, http://damngood.com//jobseekers/tips.html
insists I need one.

I think they are a waste of time but I have a friend right here on AW who used this site and got a job in a week after redoing her resume.

And trust me on this folks this is just the beginning. I have to rewrite an entire resume that states the challenges I faced in previous jobs and how I resolved the problems.

*head plant to desk* I hate this. I miss the good ole days when I could walk into an office, ask if they are seeking help and apply! FACE TO FREAKING FACE!

Williebee, have luggage, am willing to travel.

Yeah, looking at some of the samples, they do seem more specific to the position/field sought. I'd craft one for each position/field. Like:

" A challenging position in Human Resources focused on __________."

"A Human Resources position with __________ and _________."

"A position in the __________ field drawing on my ______ experience."

"Employment in Human Resources with potential for personal growth."

Suki, thanks for those examples. So I am looking for a position as an office or store manager.

Also, guys and gals...would you include that job I had for the three months last year in which I set up their entire HR department, audited all their practices, brought them into compliance only to be let go and replaced with a younger, male version of myself?

Those are all good!

And when they call you for an interview, just say (in your best Mrs. Doubtfire accent), "I am job." You'll be a shoo in (or is it shoe in? i can never remember that one).

 You see! This is why I love you guys. You make me laugh inspite of myself. I've rewritten my resume about 10 times over the last year and nothing has gotten me the job. I've had about 6 interviews out of approximately 500 applications. (I'm not kidding about the number). I'm having a really hard time with the whole, you must apply online first thing. And then, I've been applying to jobs well below my experience level.

I've been told by several HR collegues that I'm screwed and living in no man's land. No degree/ in progress...tons of experience and I'm evidently OLD now too.

Those are all good!
