I'm completely dry. I have a short article (750 words) due in two hours and I've got nothing! It should be a breeze. I've written the same basic article for other markets before and I should be able to bang this thing out in 30 minutes. Ugh!

No questions or anything - just shouting in the wind here.

Looks to me like you've got no choice but to park your butt in a chair and force the article out. :/

I sympathise. :(

And that's what I did. I sat down. I squeezed. And I turned it in with 5 minutes to spare.

Congrats, Breddings.

Is this you?

Controlled procrastination - personal knowledge of just how long one can wait before having to buckle down and complete the task. Some people find they work much more efficiently this way. Problems with the approach--it takes time to learn just when to buckle down (with some mistakes along the way) and even after learning is solidified, miscalculations or interruptions can mess things up.

Can you tell I am well-schooled in this method?

Holy crap. I can't answer for Breddings, but this is totally me . . .

I didn't know there was a term for this! Now, how about a cure? :D

No cure as far as I know. There is great joy in getting things done ahead of time, so there is hope for adjusting, but as far as I can tell, it never goes away totally.

I used to suffer from controlled procrastination. Then I started getting gigs with requirements like five blog entries per month. They are never too pleased when all five entries are posted on the 31st! I usually do a decent job of scheduling my work but this has been a crazy month. Was going to do this job two days ago, then yesterday, then first thing this morning but that blockage had set in and I just couldn't get it going. Finally took an old article I wrote 2 years ago on the same topic and started rewriting it sentence by sentence until it started to flow again. I hope this doesn't happen again, it really sucked!
