I'm not sure if this is in the right place (so mods move it about if need be) but I was just curious about mutliple book deals.

If you get say a 3 book deal, does that mean those three books are supposed to be related?

(I'm nowhere near publication...heck not even agented) but it just got me a-wondering.

Thanks for the reply, Scott. That's good to know...not that I expect to have mutliple book deals sold but you never know.

Congrats on the deal by the way.

It depends on your contract and what you're offering. If the book you are shopping is a standalone "with series potential," it's likely they'll expect more of the same. I got a two-book deal, and my contract specified that the second book "shall be a sequel to Book #1, featuring heroine...."

Single, non-series novels won't require the other books contracted be part of a series, or even related.

Ah ok, so it depends on the book to an extent. Got it. Well if I end up querying the novel I'm working on, then it definitely has trilogy potential so...cool.
