We sometimes have to shut Absolute Write's forums off to perform maintenance.

When I know in advance, I'll post an announcement here. I don't always know; sometimes things go wrong.

If the forums are off and you visit them, you'll see a statement at the very top of the page announcing that there off.

Here are some places to get information:

Twitter

AW Admin's twitter feed
(https://twitter.com/LisaSpangenberg)

MacAllister's twitter feed (https://twitter.com/AbsoluteWrite)

Facebook

Absolute Write Page (https://www.facebook.com/AbsoluteWrite/)

If the forums are off, or the entire site is "down" please don't check back every ten minutes.

Give me at least an hour to suss out the problem and try to fix it. It's much harder to do that if people are refreshing the page.

Thanks

Cron jobs!

And the board and Web site will be off for about an hour from 11pm Seattle/Los Angeles time tonight.

Yes, folks, it's that wonderful fun night every week where we try to stay up late enough to err . . . groom the board.

In 40 minutes, at 11pm Seattle time, everybody get out of the pool; we'll shut the board down for about an hour.

Tonight's beer is Full Sail Brewery's Session Black; it's pretty fine.

First,

Yep. It's that night. We're going to be shutting AW down for about an hour at 11pm Pacific/Seattle/LA Time.

Now then, on to the beer.

Alright, Medievalist. Your task: determine the best hefe.

Suggested brands: Sierra Nevada, Live Oak, Franziskaner, Paulaner, Weihenstephaner, and anything else you can get your hands on.

My very first hefe was Henry Weinhard Brothers' Hefeweisen, on tap. You can read about it here (http://beerreport.com/news/widmer-brothers-hefeweisen).

But my current favorite is Sierra Nevada's new Kellerweis Hefeweizen. It's quite lovely, and no, I don't care--call it a girl beer all you want. It's perfect for a blisteringly hot humid night like this. It's unfiltered, made with very special Bavarian yeast, and at 4.8 ABV qualifies as a session beer.

Pine and Post Cab Sauvignon--Not bad. Lovely darker than usual crimson-purple. Nice aroma, but bit of an alcoholic burn--it's 13.5 ABV.

If you're looking for a bargain table cabernet sauvignon, I'd suggest looking towards Australia's Banrock Station, or, still my favorite California's, Merridian Cabernet Sauvignon.

And we're back!

Yep; it's MONDAYYYYYYY NIGHTTTTTT!

We'll be shutting off AW, both the board and the Web site for about an hour tonight for routine housekeeping. We'll shut down at about 11 pm Pacific/Los Angeles/Seattle time.

I suggest that you go and watch either George C. Scott in an amazing production of Christmas Carol on Hulu (http://www.hulu.com/watch/117168/a-christmas-carol), or Eastwood in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (http://www.hulu.com/watch/106042/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly), also on Hulu.

Both are free, if you're in the U.S. The rest of you lot ought to be writing anyway.

And the post geekery beverage is Seattle's own Hale's Ales Wee Heavy Winter Ale (http://beerreport.com/news/hales-ales-wee-heavy-winter-ale).

Next week though the maintenance may take a bit longer; I have a bunch of stuff to install.

And in a bit I'll be putting the new and spiffy version of vBulletin (the software that runs the forums) up over at Written In Stone, (http://www.macallisterstone.com/forums/) so we can text drive it for a few months to see what works and what doesn't.

And that constitutes this week's Maintenance notification. We'll be shutting AW down for about an hour tonight at 11pm Pacific Seattle/Los Angeles time to shovel out the corners of the database.

Sam Adams is good the world over. But Carlsberg still rules my little corner of NE.

G'night AW!

Yea, folks, this is Monday night.

We'll be shutting AW down for about an hour at 11 pm Pacific/Los Angeles/Seattle time to clean the hamster cages, feed the little bastards darlings, and generally clean up.

And the libation tonight is a California Pinto Grigio, or Pinot Gris to those of you with Francophone leanings.

I hear this is a popular varietal for sparkling wines in the EU; haven't seen any here.

Mac had to clean up an unfortunate mess on aisle seven, so we're running a little late tonight.

Consider this a four minute warning.

Yep. It's Monday night.

In about 3 hours and ten minutes, (11 pm Pacific/Los Angeles/Seattle time) we'll be shutting down AW for an hour so we can groom medicate the mods the hamsters and clean their jackboots cages.

With luck, I'll be able to write and post a blog post about H.D.'s "Sea Rose (http://writing.upenn.edu/~afilreis/88/hd-sea-rose.html)."

You're just chasing us all to bed so we can't see what you've got on TiVO.

Not only do I not have TiVO, I don't even have a TV.

And I ended up writing about exporting files on the iPad, which is NOT what I'd planned.

Nope, it actually went pretty zippy tonight. About thirty-five minutes, rather than the hour we schedule.

Hey, happy campers! Just a reminder that in about 22 minutes, we shut the server down to clean the hamster cages!

There's always AW Chat, and a bunch of us party on Twitter while we wait, too. :)
