I sent in a very short query to the I Love Cats magazine on doing an article about responsible pedigree cat buying/how to find the cat and breeder of your dreams - I just got the response today! The editor likes it and it'll pay $50 "if accepted." I'm not sure if that's the same as on acceptance (instead of when published), but I DON'T CARE! I'm so happy!

I had a horrible cat show this weekend so this is just the greatest pick me up I could have hoped for!

I believe they're asking you to send it "on spec" which means if they like it, they'll buy it - if not, they won't.

It's a good way to break into some markets when you don't have an extensive list of clips.

Yup, as BF said, that's an on-spec thing. Still, it's exciting to get the go-ahead, especially when you've been working so hard studying your topic. Now get busy and write a well-researched, meaty article that will knock her/his socks off! And good luck! :)
