View Full Version : Let's trade

Haggis

I'll name a player I want to trade. You tell me who you'll give me for him/her. The next person will say who they'll trade for that person, etc.

I figure this thread will peter out in about three posts. :D

Anyhow, me first. I'll trade you Allen Iverson. Who do I get back?

Silver King
04-20-2009, 04:17 AM
Very cool idea for a thread. :)

Before I answer, though, must the person being traded belong to the same sport? For example, can I trade you Mike Tyson for Iverson?

Yeah. Clever of me, huh. :D

I don't see why not.

Silver King

In that case, I'll give you Tyson, and you can keep Iverson. Heck of a deal, eh? :D

Okay, who's willing to pony up for Vinny Lecavalier? It's not that I wish to see him leave Tampa, but it would be in his best interest to play for a better team. And it's likely, due to financial restraints, that he'll be traded anyway.

Word to the wise: When Hollywood producers purchase a hockey club, chances are fans will be in for a horror show. And Tampa is no exception, with their version of Saw on Ice.

That post was supposed to be in the hockey thread. Someone is screwing with me. I wonder who...

But trade-wise, who would you trade--from the Wings--for Bobby Ryan, right now?

Haggis
04-27-2009, 08:44 PM
Tough call. I don't know much about him other than he's a kid and a good scorer. Upside is a ton of potential, but downside is not much history. Can he be consistently good his whole career? What about his defense?

I don't trade Datsyuk for him. Not Zetterberg either--at least not this year. I dunno. Hossa? he's older, but a hell of a scorer.

robeiae
04-27-2009, 08:52 PM
If the Ducks close it out tonight, you're gonna see a lot of him. He's a two-way player, all the way. And between him, his linemates, and Scott Niedermayer, I'm looking for a serious battle with the Wings.

labron for ai?

kidding aside,...sixers attendence has been dismal at best.

and the front office keeps saying that this was a 'basketball decision.'
ummm, yea,...no. i don't believe that one.

Jcomp
12-10-2009, 12:13 AM
Nah, not Lebron for AI. Of course not.
But let's say Delonte West and Varejao or some other "expiring contract" type players for a "washed up" A.I.

Cavs should have gone after Iverson over Shaq in the first place. They're both headaches but power--or lack thereof--in the post wasn't the real problem the Cavs faced in losing in the playoffs, and adding an out of shape Shaq who plugs the lane and kills fast breaks wasn't the answer. A.I. can run with Lebron and be a spot-up shooter for when Mike Brown inevitably panics in a game and calls "Lebron Isolation" 9 times in a row. Right now teams can collapse three on Lebron in that scenario but A.I.--for all his issues--tends to show up in big moments. And when he's hot he's on fire. You'd have to be more wary of him spotting up for a kick-out three than anyone else that Cleveland has right now, by far.

cray
12-10-2009, 12:20 AM
makes sense.
you'd also have to be wary of him jacking up 45 shots a game though...

:D

Ha. Indeed. But the thing with A.I.--and this is going to sound somewhat goofy, but I think it's true--A.I. could be more successful with a poor offensive coach like Mike Brown. His biggest coaching conflicts were Larry Brown and George Karl because those guys actually do things like call real plays out of a timeout. Mike Brown's favorite call is truly "Give it to Lebron and see what he can do with it." So with the more playground atmosphere I think he would thrive working with a guy like Lebron. Both of them can create off the dribble, penetrate and dish or just score. It didn't work in Denver because Karl is actually calling plays and A.I. is just doing his own thing, but in Cleveland "Do Your Own Thing" is officially in the playbook. It's perfect...

Plus what he's been through recently has force-fed him some humble pie. And he's always played with a ton of heart and is solid on perimeter defense for an undersized player. If you're Cleveland I think you're much better off with A.I. over Shaq.

Haggis
12-10-2009, 12:37 AM
The problem is that in Cleveland the team belongs to Lebron, and that wouldn't fit in with AI's concept of Me-ball.

Jcomp
12-10-2009, 12:48 AM
The problem is that in Cleveland the team belongs to Lebron, and that wouldn't fit in with AI's concept of Me-ball.

I dunno. I think he'd get over it, especially given what he's gone through. And being Lebron's wingman would give you ample opportunity still because Lebron actually LIKES to pass the rock, he just does it less and less because the guys he's passing to are likely to wet themselves if it comes down to a clutch shot.

A.I. and Kobe could never co-exist because Kobe would rather leave his mark by putting up 60+ points in Madison Square, while Lebron would rather target a triple double. With a legitimate perimeter scorer by his side Lebron could average over 30 points and 10 assists a game. He'd love having A.I. and A.I. would still get to shoot a lot. And for all the talk of A.I. being a shoot-first guy (which he definitely is) he still averages more than 6 assists per game for his career, despite spending the majority of his career surrounded by non-scorers. That's more than current Cavs starting PG Mo Williams, and A.I.'s game isn't even that of a natural point guard.

cray
12-10-2009, 01:03 AM
he's far from a point guard.
and when he's forced to play it he pouts.

as far as assists go,....yea averaging over 6 a game but the problem is that they come like this,..

ai holds the ball
ai tries to break down the defender
shot clock down to 4
ai tries to break down the defend again
shot clock at 2
give the ball to someone,..anyone,...

THAT anyone turns into a magician and somehow scores dispite ai's antics.

don't get me wrong, everything you are saying make sense. and man, the guy has/had talent like i've never seen before. he could do things inside of 3 feet from a defender that would make you dizzy. just amazing.

he just doesn't seem to be able to fit on any team.
but again, what you're saying makes sense so let's do the deal and see what happens. :D ai for labron, right?

But that's just it, you don't run him at point. Cavs have a point, Mo Williams. Let A.I. run shooting guard and it's all good.

Now if you could pull of the magic of Lebron for A.I. (I see what you're doing there, hell, can L.A. trade Ron Artest for Lebron first? Please?) it'd be interesting to see King James playing with a legitimate 2nd option with Andre "Mister Ri-Dunk-ulous" Igoudala. Also, what the hell happened with Elton Brand? I know he was injured last year, but damn, remember when he was a consistent 20 points 10-boards guy earlier in his career? Maybe James could revive that.

All that said though, I still think the lead for the Lebron sweepstakes is New York. It would require significant house-cleaning, but playing Mike D'Antoni's style of ball, Lebron could average a triple-double for the season, easily. And they could attract the right free agents to the big city to actually win a title playing that style--which only works if you're loaded with mega-talent i.e. the 80's Lakers.
