Here's a new opportunity I just learned about:

New Voices & New Visions of Transformation: An Anthology of Religious Writing from Rising Generations (a working title)

These critical times call us to ask: How are people in their teens through thirties (so-called "Generations X and Y") imaginatively, prophetically, and constructively transforming religious communities and wider society in the 21st century, an age of rapid change and global conflict? What are these generations saying about personal spirituality, theology, religious identity, activism, ministry, aesthetics, culture,
and religious community? What voices and visions will sustain and guide us?

This anthology of younger poets, creative fiction and non-fiction writers, scholars, preachers, cultural critics, and activists will benefit the FAITH YOUTH INSTITUTE, a dynamic leadership training program offered each summer by ANDOVER NEWTON THEOLOGICAL SCHOOL, the oldest Protestant graduate school in the country and an international leader in
theological education and transforming ministry for the 21st century. Located outside Boston, ANTS offers pioneering programs including Worship, Theology and Arts; Theology, Ministry, and Public Life; Global Christianity, Cross-Cultural, and Interfaith Ministries; and Faith, Health, and Spirituality.

WHAT WORD HAVE YOU HEARD? WHAT WORD ARE YOU CALLED TO SPEAK?

Submission Guidelines: We are seeking excellent poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction and short fiction, essays, sermons, prayers, liturgies, essays, scholarly pieces, for print and/or web publication. Authors should be ages 13 through 30s, or minister to and with young people. An ecumenically Christian publication. Welcomes interfaith voices. Please submit up to 7 poems, or 3 prose pieces. Deadline Feb 1, 2005.
Work is accepted on a rolling basis. Please contact [email protected] and [email protected] with questions. (Please write "Anthology Inquiry" in your title to avoid accidental junk mail screening.)

TO SUBMIT: Send hardcopy and, if possible, a disk with Word document, with cover letter, biography, contact information (name, address, phone, email address) and Self Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to Alexander Levering Kern and Deane Lindsey Kern, Editors, at ANTS FYI, 210 Herrick
Road Newton Centre, MA 02459. For more information contact
[email protected] or see complete submission guidelines at
www.ants.edu/learning.

Payment is one copy of the publication and discounts on additional orders.

Author Randall Ingermanson has a Ph.D. in physics and is a self-proclaimed computer geek. He has several books in print: five novels (Premonition, Retribution, Transgression, Oxygen, and The Fifth Man) and one non-fiction book (Who Wrote the Bible Code? A Physicist Probes the Current Controversy)

Christianbook.com has an interesting article by him about book proposals, and they also are offering free downloads of two of his successful book proposals for interested wanna-be authors to examine. Wanna see what kind of proposal sold a publisher on Oxygen (a sci fi book) or Who Wrote the Bible Code? (a non-fiction book)? Now you can...

If what you love most to write are letters to the editor and op/ed pieces, check this site out. Here's what they have to say about themselves:

The Amy Foundation Writing Awards program is designed to recognize creative, skillful writing that presents in a sensitive, thought-provoking manner the biblical position on issues affecting the world today.

To be eligible, submitted articles must be published in a secular, non-religious publication and must be reinforced with at least one passage of scripture.

You can go to the web site for more details. There's no entry fee and the top prize is $10,000 - but more important than that, is the impact your writing may have on the readers of whatever publication you send your stuff to.

The AF also offers a free newsletter, material to help church writing groups, and free downloadable columns for use in various publications.

Pastor Glenn White's web site, chock full of articles about writing, resources, and encouragement. Good stuff here. Pastor White died in November, but the web site will be left open and available to writers, as he would have wished.

Lisa A. Crayton’s web site for Christian writers, with lots of educational and inspirational articles, as well as links to various sites of interest to Christian writers (including to quite
a few excellent conferences). Also a paying market for writers.

I've compiled a list of markets on my website labeled either secular or religious that I thought others here might find this helpful, including some smaller press Christian literary magazines.

SLW came up fine for me. Try again.

Anyone interested in learning more about Randy's style of outlining and so on, he'll be on the faculty at Answer the Call, in NE Ohio, Oct. 12-15. See details here:
http://christianwritersgroup.org/answer/index.php

I'll be there. Maybe I'll see some of you there, too!
