There are five kids in my house, two of whom don't belong to me. Yes, I'm sure. But I will tell you that my hubby and I had a marital interruptus situation at 6:25 this morning - our kids just keep waking up earlier and earlier. After 14 years, you just laugh.

I'm sitting here in the watch office at the station with my feet propped up on the desk drinking a cup of coffee and smoking a cigarette. The fire/police radio is crackling in my ear. The TV is on, but I'm not paying attention to it. I have one eye on the computer and one eye on the group of kids across the street. Waiting for our next call...what will it be, what will it be? The Fire Gods didn't speak to me this morning, so I am certain we will not catch a fire this shift. But there are plenty of other ways in which people can hurt themselves and need our help.

So I wait...

I'm sitting here at my desk, at work, taking a fifteen pause from my work day. I just finished surfing the Catholic vs. Wiccan thread here and it only validated my beleif that one should never discuss religion or politics as these are very personal and volatile issues. SOme very diverse and agressive opinions being expressed.

I have a Starbucks Iced Coffee and a mouthful of a Snickers bar while I'm typing my reply. May we all have a good day. I'm going to buy some chocolate chip cookies for my wife tonight.. I've been inspired by this thread.

Oh, and I'm stompin' ants. They're travelling through here on their way to their summer home, apparently.

Hot? At 70? Yikes--I wish it were 70. Our low last night was suposed to be 72--never got there. Think it got down to 80 something. Today it was 98 by the temp gauge on the car.

Oh and I am sitting here cursing the AC--it iced up, so it is off. Went and bought a fan for the office, everyday this dang thing has been icing up and has to be shut off--the landlord says--uh? It worked Ok last year. You sure you got it turned on right?

Poetinahat,

Forgive me if this has come up before, but I can't but feel, in looking at your picture, that you're not wearing a hat at all.

So, at the risk of drawing offensive conclusions, it would appear that either your username or your avatar is lying.

That's one of the Big Ten, you know.

Playing a game of pool at Pogo.com (http://www.pogo.com) trying to win my Club Pogo badge while deciding what I want to eat and if I want to fix some coffee. Just now I realized I have no coffee, so I could call my brother go get me some and drive it to me. That means I must bribe him with money (as food will not work in this situation).

Other than that, I am catching up on posts, wishing my stupid TV worked, and listening as my boys (dogs) run back and forth through the house wrestling with each other.

"O great writer"... that stings.

i'm not calling you out. it was a passing joke, delivered too deapan. my senses are dulled from sniffing glue and banging my head against the monitor. i guess, now that i think about it, we've never really interacted much, so i suppose it was an inappropriate introduction.

Are you wearing a hat? Are you bereft of facial skin?
good questions. thanks for asking. i'm actually wearing my old oakland raider baseball cap. that doesn't qualify as a classy hat like, say, william burroughs or karl malden wore, but in the strictest sense, it's a hat, i guess.

as for facial hair, yes, i wear a goatee. i have since i was 6 or 7. only now it has gray hair in it, each one representing devastating heartbreak.

And how do you know my name is intended to be read that way? Perhaps I'm a big fan of The Telltale Heart and Nutbush City Limits.
you're right, i don't know these things. but you can bet my lawyer and his vicious squad of mouth-breathing private investigators will be finding out.

Perhaps I only write while wearing a hat.
this is profound in its simplicity, and i find my entire argument undone. i apologize for wasting your time, and will now quietly slink back into my dung-covered grave.

Hey -thanks William! We have two of his albums. Someone gave me the first one a few years ago - someone from New Orleans. And my hub liked it so much, I gave him the newest one a few months ago. It's not bad, listenable for sure. Not sure what kind of following he'll find in Cleveland, but I hear it's sold out.

I grew up in the desert and we always had a/c. Moved up to NorCal and there are lots of places without it (like the place we have now). Most days it's not a problem and window fans that move the air about are sufficient to stay cool. If it gets into the high 80's or 90's though it's miserable and I start thinking about paying $800 or so for a unit.

On the hot vs cold on a hot day. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_47.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm41442US)

It is true.

Why, how, what you sputter?

When you drink something cold on a hot day you body then has to warm that liquid to body temp. So drink something near freezing (like an Icee or Slurpee) and the old body heater comes on. You are momentarily cooled by the ice in your mouth but your body has to heat that up so it heats you up more.

When you drink room temp or hot liquid, your body goes--eeee gadds, and then shuts down the heater and works at cooling that hot stuff, thus making you cooler.

Water or rubbing alcohol applied to the skin doesn't do the same as it is evaporation that cools you, as is dispensation of heat when you swim, or bathe. http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_1_3v.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZNxdm41442US)

More reasons not to get married.

Hey, I understand the wry humour, but that's a pretty broad statement.
Of course, marriage isn't a goal in itself, and it's definitely not the way to fix a relationship. But it can be a wonderful expression of love between two people.

When my love and I got engaged, I knew it was right. From that moment, I've never had the slightest hint of indication to the contrary.

It's gotten better with time, and I see no sign of that trend changing. Going on nine years, with one child here and another one coming soon, I'm overjoyed to be married.

What I'm doin' at this very moment...
Checkin' out the board. I've been gone most of the weekend, so I'm just reading everything I missed. I'm eating Taco Bell and watching my son play with his new kittens. Yes, more kittens! Lol... The kittens I fostered a couple months back were all adopted out, we didn't end up keeping any of them. My son's been wanting a kitten ever since. So, Today, I gave in and went to get him "one" kitten and come home with "two". They're so cute!

Freaking out---we are in the process of buying a house, and since we rent form a private party, we need to have copies of the rent checks, so I call my bank, they can fax them--cool. But, for some reason the land lord has not cashed this month's rent check--so I call them - -- -

The land lord's phone is disconnected. Now explain that? Gee, we have a PO box to pay rent to, but they haven't cashed the rent check, and now, no way to phone them--so no way other than mail to contact them. Gee, wonder how we would get ahold of them if say the house burned down?
