I had a funny thought...what if we just saw the Rush Hamburger of Turkey?

And with them being a bit behind when it comes to national conscience, their Rush Hamburger is approximately 5 times more hateful and racist!

I wonder why leftists always find a need to parodize someone's name.

"Shrub" for Bush. "Hamburger" for Limbaugh. "God Damned Motherfucking Scumsucker from Hell" for Cheney. "Faux News." Etc. Etc. Etc.

Is it a need to feel clever? A deep-seated desire to say "look, I mocked that dude so totally, I even desecrated his name!"

Ok, I do apologize, I realize I've done it on occasion, specifically, California's ousted governor, Grey Doofus. So maybe it's not specifically a leftist thing, but it seems to me that it's far, far more prevalent on the left than right.

Why is this? How much does it add to the weight of your actual argument? Are you afraid the argument itself bears no merit without the additional mocking? Or are you so hate-filled at the other side of the aisle that you can't even say a rival's name without it coming out in spittle and a curse?

I suspect we'll see lots more wanna-be-clever naming coming from the Right, with the recent balance of power shift at the federal level.

I actually can't remember how to spell his actual name.

Also, I don't really think of Rush Hamburger as being a "Righy". I think of him more as...completely buggy insane. Conservatives are not insane. They're not racist or sexist. They're not stupid blowhards that rant and rave like Hamburger or O'Reilly.

Sooooooo, yeah...not really trying to insult the Rightiees.

Just Hamburger.

Most certainly. I remember Bill Clinton coming in for his share of Slick Willie jokes, along with taking jabs at his penchant for fast food and his taste in women. Jimmy Carter I was a little too young for, but as I recall, there were a fair few jokes about him, his accent, his "lusting in his heart", and his brother.

Oh yeah. Whoever's sitting in the hot seat (the White House) certainly gets roasted on a weekly basis.

Yeah, like "Osama" for "Obama". Oh wait, that was a Republican thing. Apologies for the flippancy but watching from across the pond the news reports featuring those well-educated people on the street who thought that Obama was the biggest threat to national security made me cackle a lot. Then I was a bit depressed. Then I cackled some more.

My non-partisan view is that it's a puerile tactic. It hinders me from giving the associated statements serious consideration. Worst of all, it's just not clever or funny.

Left, right, centre - I don't care. And I disagree that either side has a monopoly on, or preponderance of, immaturity. Boors, dolts and mouth-breathers abound on both sides of the fence.

Well, you're exposing a wee bit of ignorance here, then, it seems like.

Conservatives are just as likely to be insane as liberals, point in fact. Just as neither liberalism nor conservatism has a lock on racism or sexism. There's no monopoly on stupid blowhards in either conservatism nor liberalism's camps.

Rush Limbaugh is not insane. He's not racist. He *is* a bit misogynistic, I can't deny that. He exhibits it more through his disdain for feminists and feminism in general than anything else, though.

He's most definitely not a stupid blowhard.

You know the difference between Rush Limbaugh and a stupid blowhard?

Stupid blowhards don't compete in every radio market in America and win them handily. Buggy insane people don't dominate their industry for a decade. The White House does not single out Ravers.

Do you know how difficult it is to talk constantly, for three hours a day, every day, and do so so entertainingly that 20,000,000 people will continue to listen to you? I don't know that I could do it. Could you?

A recent poll discovered that the vast number of people who criticize rush out of hand have never listened to his show, or, at best, have heard excerpts. People who have heard his show may disagree with him. They may hate him and his views, but they know he's no dullard. They certainly know he's not insane.

Now, that Bill O'Reilly guy? I don't know anything about him. You're probably dead right about him.

But I'm guessing not.

You're probably right, there, Mac. I'm just trying to remember if we had any goofy names for Clinton, other than Slick Willy.

Inexplicably knocking my own thread off topic, the rush limbaugh thing being stupid reminded me of one of my favorite Jim Rome promos:

"I always tell people to give my show two weeks. If after two weeks you can come up to me and honestly say 'I just don't like your show,' then I'm man enough to say 'You're probably just not very smart. Give it another two weeks.'"

I know I couldn't. If I talk to my four cats for longer than 10 minutes they fall asleep. I'm no fan of Hush Bimbo (which is what Michael Savage calls Rush Limbaugh), but I have to hand it to him. He does get people to listen.

....

As has been mentioned above, both sides are guilty.

This is human nature. De-humanizing the other side is the first step to discrediting them. I've found that both sides are pretty much brainwashed and convinced that the other side is evil, wrong, morally corrupt, incompetent, etc. etc.

Its is extremely rare for a Democrat to acknowledge and support a Republican idea and vice versa. They are no better than LA gangs, they just have a better vocabulary and wear better suits

*must resist urge to comment. Must fight it...*

Could you?

So let me get this straight? If you are successful, then it is impossible to be insane or a blowhard?

I can make a pretty long list of successful crazy people.

A recent poll discovered that the vast number of people who criticize rush out of hand have never listened to his show, or, at best, have heard excerpts. People who have heard his show may disagree with him. They may hate him and his views, but they know he's no dullard. They certainly know he's not insane.

No. Rush is not insane. I've listen to his show for years (against my will :) A coworker of mine loved Rush and we all had to suffer.

Rush is one of the most dangerous people i've ever listened to. His IQ has got to be around 150, maybe higher. His ability to be insidious but charming, damning yet debonair, condemning and condescending... It scares me worse than an Al Qaeda speech.

The worst type of negativity is negativity that you do not recognize. His fans are pretty much blind to his hate speech. They dismiss it as "Oh he's just playing..."

And I use the term hate speech in all seriousness. His mission is to pretty much discredit anything that democrats do. He is extreme in that regard and uses a variety of techniques.

He intersperses this between bits of very intelligent and even correct points and positions. This is one of those things that makes him very dangerous.

To give Rush his due, there are a lot of topics he is dead on accurate about. There are many occassions where he speaks the spot-on truth. Which is what makes it so easy for him to insert a distortion here, and exageration there.

One thing I will give Rush credit for is that he doesn't really out right lie. He distorts, he can leave out that 5% truth that turns it into a horrid 'almost lie'.

Anyways,

I will stop ranting Rush is no means innocent and i have listened to him for YEARS, not just an isolated incident. That man scares the shit out of me. Only thing scarier than him are his viewers who regard his rantings as the oracles spoken to them by god via a burning bush. Not all his fans are this fanatic, but enough of them are.

The freepers apparently had a large number of them -- Linky-- including such classics as "Bubba", "Beelzebubba", "Clintigula", "B.J.", "The Scumbag Kid", and my personal favorite, 'Rapist".

Fair enough.

Dangerous. Yeah. Intelligent people who can argue their points charmingly and insiduously are always dangerous.

And I use the term hate speech in all seriousness. His mission is to pretty much discredit anything that democrats do. He is extreme in that regard and uses a variety of techniques.
His mission is to advance conservatism and capitalism, and thwart liberalism and socialism. Speaking out about the proponents of his targets is not hate speech. Not unless you want to be fair and say speaking out against republicans is the same.

From the sounds of it, he scares you because he makes strong points, he makes them well, and that bothers you because he's playing for the opposite team.

Clintigula is the only one there that is even remotely clever. Bubba I *think* was his own nickname for himself, in which case Beezlebubba is pretty damned funny.

Good google-fu, my friend.

I guess I'm a moron, cause...when I heard him speak, he sounded like a loon. I've avoided him since then.

Note, just cause I don't like the guy does not mean I begrudge him any viewers or think you shouldn't watch him.

I am voting with my wallet by not adding to his listenership.

I'm capitalisting him!

Muahahahahahaa!
