I know this shouldn't be so difficult, but I cannot figure out a pen name. My real name is a little hard for people, so I want to use a pseudonym. I am probably going to keep my first name, Melanie, and then figure out a different last name. I tried to combine the last names of my two best friends, but that didn't quite work out.

I am just wondering how everyone else came up with their pen names.

(this probably belongs in a different section)
I made my pen name by taking my full maiden name and scrambling the letters until I came up with something I liked. then I shortened the first two names to their initials.

Oh yes, this thread definitely belongs in another area. I just wasn't sure where to put it.

Thanks for the advice!

The formula for pornstars is to take a childhood pets name and the name of the street you lived on.
ETA: I know that doesn't help much, but it's interesting trivia.

Heh. I just answered this in another thread. About user names. Cuz my user name is my pen name. Anyway...

Mine is my first initial, my two middle intitials, and the last name of my family before they moved to the US and changed it.

So then I'd be . . . Ziggy Short.

My pen name is my real name plus mother's maiden name.

(and apparently my pornstar name would be Misty Trailwood...my that does sound provocative.)

I put my first name as my surname and added an "s." Then I made up a first name and used my second name as well. I like long names.

My pen name consists of the first name my mother wanted to call me but my dad didn't like, and the surname that was by my grandfather who went AWOL and got himself a passport in our (now) family name to get to Australia after he saw the ship beside him get blown up. His twin brothers were on the ship. I feel like I'm still my parents' daughter by doing this. :O))

I took my first name and added my last initial "A", short for Anderson.

Hmm, sure are a lot of questions about pen names it seems – maybe they deserve their own section. :tongue

I already have mine picked out, but if I had to use the ol' porn formula, I would be Theodore “Teddy” Flatiron. I have to say, that doesn't sound all that bad, though I suppose I'm lucky I had no idea my first pet was actually a girl (it was a lizard and I was I don't even know how young). Who knows what I would have ended up with, otherwise.

Finding mine was easy because my dear SWEET mother had to name me Melanie and pronounce it Mu-Lane-ie, yep so all my life I have spent correcting everyone saying "no Mrs Smith A does not make the O sound, it should be spelled Melonie not Melanie.

Unfortuantely, I did not win the debate. So, now I have taken on the pen name MaLanie so that I can hear my name pronounced like my mother meant it to be *sigh* and yes I broke the rule and capitalized the L. I like to stand out! :)

I used my "real" middle name (which I legally dropped when I got married) and a family surname (my grandmother's maiden name). I like having a "first name" that is familiar to me, otherwise I don't think I would answer to it.

If the problem is an unusual or hard to pronounce surname, you could anglicize it into something similar but more familiar for most English speakers.

I have multiple pen names, but if I'd used the 'formula', I'd be Sissy Grady. Or Buckshot Arlington. I barely remember Buckshot, but he was around when I was born so I guess he'd be my first pet.

I still use my dogs' names as my first name and various formulae for the last names. Considering one of my dogs is named Sugarbaby, using her name presented a challenge.
