Some guy from Hamilton tried to smuggle 33 venomous Massassauga rattlers into New York State in a van today.

Aricle.

I took a picture of a Massassauga that was living under my friend's porch near Coldwater ON. She thought I was crazy.

Well... I am.

They're at the Toronto Zoo and will be released back into the wild. Just don't step on one while you're hiking, please.

BTW, this is the second time my daughter went on a school trip and some bizarre thing happened. In high school, her class visited Niagara Falls and some guy threw himself over the falls. Today she was at the zoo and just missed all the fuss.

I like snakes. They are pretty simple to understand. They are beneficial.

Now I don't want them as pets, but they're cool in the yard.

I used to know a woman who loved reptiles. She loved all animals but had a special place in her heart for herptiles. I never knew what I'd get handed whenever I went over there. That's how I got over my fear of snakes. Her husband handed me a boa constrictor. It turned out to be a gentle, well-socialized boa constrictor. (More so than the husband, actually.)

She had cats, birds, turtles, fish, snakes, hermit crabs, lizards, rats, mice, guinea pigs, and hamsters. And they lived in a two bedroom apartment.

I wouldn't mind having a couple of garter snakes in the yard.

I caught a worm snake once in San Antonio, really cool. They look exactly like earthworms, but they have eyes, and, well, they're really snakes and not worms.

Oh, dang it, you know what I mean.

It was really neat to see that up close.
