Yep, it happens with so many choppers flying out to rigs. I was stunned there was one survivor.

I was nearly a statistic a decade ago in a chopper incident. The floats deployed in flight. We plummeted from 3000 feet to 500 in 2.8 seconds, nose straight down. Thankfully we were at 3000 feet instead of our usual 2000 feet or we would have nosed-in. There was seven million in damage to the chopper, from what I was told. The miracle was where the blades were when it happened, one just past the tail boom, because they flexed enough that if they were in any other position, the boom would have been lopped off, meaning death for all of us.

It wasn't fun. I feel for those poor guys who died, because those 2.8 seconds seemed to last a long, long time. Just terrible.

Gee, that is so sad. Hope the one passenger recovers and will be ok. May the others R.I.P.
