I got sick and tired of being sick and tired of my own inconsistent writing and submitting so I took a deep breath and knocked on the door of a local community newspaper to ask about writing for them. I got a big YES and carte blanche on subject matter (for now at least) plus byline.
I did this over 20 + years ago and I honed my writing, I learned how to meet a deadline and the feedback /editing from the editor was priceless. I wanted that experience again, plus I have a pot full of story ideas already. What really attracted me to take little to no pay per article is that this paper has been around for over 35 years - with no web presence - and is thriving in a market where major dailies are closing. I am excited about being a part of the way newspapers used to be written.

Congratulations on this step. I really am a firm believer in nothing ventured, nothing gained. And these days, it's a great accomplishment when you can knock on a business or career door and get a "yes!"

Best of luck! :)
