shh... I'm thinking...
I know med surg floors cover a lot of things, and that said, this is a broad question...

With what illnesses and circumstances are patients admitted to such a unit? Does it seem the same types of cases are prevalent, or is it a wide gamut?

Also, what can the many duties of a med surg nurse entail - given the things they treat?

Thanks so much!

PS. Once I get a better feel for med surg, I'll likely have more specific questions related to my WIP. Thanks again. :)

Our med-surg floor is full of stuff like pneumonia, sickle cell crises, abcesses, pancreatitis, ETOH withdrawal, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). It depends how big your hospital is and how many specialized units they have: orthopedics? oncology? cardiac? neuro? If they don't have a specialized orthopedic floor, for example, a broken hip might end up on the med-surg unit as well.
