In mid-April, friends will be spending six days in NYC and then flying to Portland, Maine and taking a week traveling back to New Jersey to fly home.

They want to do more than the traditional touristy things (Statue of Liberty, Central Park carriage ride, boat tour) so any off-beat suggestions for things to do in NYC (and Maine or points in between) would be appreciated.

Thanks!

you martyr and shine.
I'd love to hear about some things to do in Maine. I'll be there for a 9-day business trip and will visit several places there (Portland, Rockland, Bangor) from March 18 - 27.

I drove a taxicab in NYC and lived there all my life, what do you want to know?
If you have a few bucks to take a cab around, the guy who still drives for my father knows the name of every building in New York, when they were built, all of it.
If you're looking for a less "family" oriented tour I'm at your disposal. I'm more of a underbelly type. My brother knows a thing or two also. PM me if you want.
