Is there a trick to knowing where to place words?




while they strolled hand in hand along the shoreline

or

While they strolled along the shoreline hand in hand

Along the shoreline, they strolled hand in hand.


Part of it is the rhythm, part of it is determining what you want to emphasize, and sometimes it's a matter of being clear what is being modified: A man with a wooden leg named Smith.
