What is this unemployed thing of which you speak?

nevada

you're not the only one. I can't even say I'm writing. I'm just wasting my day, checking AW too often to be called sane. Sending out resumes. checking out AW. reading what i've written with disgust and dismay. The same 20 pages since I'm not writing anything new. checking out AW. watching the occasional movie. Checking out AW. Ad infinitum. Ad nauseum.

My situation might be worse. I'm employed but so bored at work in my cube, all I'm doing is posting on AW every five minutes. I'm not even writing anything.

Yep... I am unemployed as of this past friday. I can't say I really loved my job. But it was nice to be paid to sit around an peruse AW and work on my MS from time to time... I finished my MS, it's out on sub, and of course I lose my job and now have this ABUNDANCE of free time AFTER my MS is finished and sent out.

Le sigh.

I'm trying to do some drawings, but there's some technical shit that I don't want to think about too much right now, so i'm avoiding it. Blech.

I'm not unemployed, I'm unemployable. What little I have to offer after all these years physically nobody wants because I'm a little mental.

I don't let that get me down though. I do write and I think I do that well Eff anyone who says different. I get up every day and find a reason to deal with the back pain and the bullshit because I'm not done here.

I also don't think I waste my time here. My rep points prove that I lift people a little with humor, so it's not wasted time to me.

The city I live in, with regards to jobs anyway, SUCKS. Everyone's looking but no one's hiring. Blargh.

One plus to being unemployed is that, when my cat wakes me up at 5 AM, I am less upset about it because I have all day to make up for the lost sleep. Actually I love everything about being unemployed, except for the having no money thing. (I don't consider writing an "employment" so I will never need to be free from my writing tasks. What I mean is that I hate having actual get-up-and-go-to-work jobs).

I'm sure everyone at one time or another has hated that aspect of "work."

You're not the only one. I was laid off on the 12th and have been sitting around, twiddling my thumbs ever since.

(OK, not really; I've been applying to jobs like mad, but no one's biting.)

So I walk around a lot, and try to write, but mostly just surf the web being useless.

Oh! I cleaned my bathroom. With bleach and everything. So I'm not a total loser.

I was fed up with my job and I think I'm in a much better place, mentally, since leaving, but it was nice to have a steady paycheck coming in. I'm hoping the unemployment benefits kick in soon.

Yay for productivity! Today I did some laundry and bought skim milk for my mom, and it's probably the most I've done all week.

It sounds like we're in a similar boat though. I was not in a great place mentally with my last job, certain coworkers got under my skin and I hated most of what I was doing. But I miss the $$.

If I had my way, everyone would be able to spend their days doing what makes them happy. But I suppose then society would fall through.

I was laid off in November...

...of 2007.

I'm technically employed for a few more days...then I have to move and search for a new job. I look at it more as temporary retirement.

Hey, don't be unemployed: start a business. Or be a contractor. Being an entrepreneur or self-employed sounds better, doesn't it? The sad part is I'm planning on being a "contractor" soon.

If all else fails, tell people you're between assignments. Sometimes, the BS can act as a salve, apparently.

Does selling all my crap on ebay count? 'cause that's what I've been doing for money...

Gotta love it. Even if I'm totally stressed out, when someone says "It's gonna be alright" or "relax" somehow it does make it seem better.

How would a "Hey, when god closes a door he opens a window!" make you feel?

See now that is one thing I never understood. A window is much smaller than a door. Plus you have to climb to get out of it, and you'll probably knock over a lamp on the way. And what if you've had too many twinkies and can't even fit through the window? I mean you're screwed. And then God is probably just laughing as you scramble around the room trying to escape.

Last night, in a stunning wave of creativity and productivity, I decided to illustrate what went wrong with my last relationship (he is illustrated below). Many of these things are not embellishments:

A book for you... (http://www.thejoyofnotworking.com/successtjnw.htm)

It's one of the staples on my bookshelf. You'll still want to be out and looking for jobs, of course. Everyone needs money. But there's so much else out there to enjoy, even if you're unemployed, and dwelling on the positive aspects will lower your stress levels.

And tomo, loved those drawings. Perhaps you should be looking for a job in a field that allows you to express that creativity in some way. Your last job sure didn't...

I love sewing! What do you make? I used to make gothic lolita costumes to sell on ebay for anime cons, but it got too hard to cover the costs.
