I need to create a banner ad for my blog to go with a short story of mine that will be published in a few weeks. The thing is, I have no idea how to make an animated gif. Can I use layers in Photoshop or Illustrator to do this?

Thanks for the info. Had a quick check around Adobe products as I figured one of them must do it, and sure enough, Photoshop does and I have that already.

So, I now have a little animated cow and a mostly-finished banner ad. :O)

Do you think it's okay?

I just ask the photoshop ninja (thethinker42) to sort me out with a GIF if I want one. :D

At over 200KB, it is going to be very annoying to some people even if the animation doesn't bug them (and it is cute and very smooth : ) ).

I know that this is the age of soopa-doopa fast connections, but for some of us bandwidth still matters. If you could optimize it down a bit, it might have a more positive impact on more viewers.

It was worth turning off my ad-blocking for a few minutes to see, anyway ;)
