Does anyone know of a program, preferably open-source and for Linux, that would organize and possibly index PDF ebooks? I have a lot of stuff I've accumulated over the years, and it is hard to keep it all organized.

What I'm looking for, ideally, is an application that would take information from the PDF files and organize them like a library, so I could sort ebooks in some meaningful way. It would be great for the app to do this automatically, but even if I had to go through and do the meta-data (ISBN, subject, title, author, etc) myself it would be better than what I have.

Any suggestions would be great. Surely something like this exists.

If you just want to search on arbitrary data within documents (like Windows Desktop Search), look into Beagle.

Beyond that, there are Web server and database-driven document management systems available for Linux. I haven't used any of them, but you could try Googling for Linux document management and see if anything among the results appeals to you.
