I've noticed that many of us nonAussie AWers have changed our avvies to show support for our Aussie friends during this terrible time.

I was thinking we could have an Aussie avvie weekend this Valentine's weekend to show our love for our Aussie friends, those we know and those we don't.

Veinglory, In Cooee's thread about Australia, Beach Bunny listed three links to organizations that are helping.

I am in. I am also open to suggestions as to the best fund or trust to donate to for the rebuilding.

Quoted from the Aussie Fires Thread:
For Aussies here's a link to the Red Cross on how you can help:

For others:

American Red Cross for donations:

International Red Cross for donations:

You can actually just copy someone else's avatar. Just save it and then make it your own.

Kevin, eyeing allycat's.

I ALWAYS have an Aussie avatar, except for the time it was inexplicably changed to a character from a Bugs Bunny cartoon. :D

I'm participating. I was due for a change, anyway.

Stay safe, to all AW'ers Down Under...

(I hope I'm remembering your old avvie correctly)

Going for a bit of a weight reduction?

I am in. I am also open to suggestions as to the best fund or trust to donate to for the rebuilding.

I've contacted a bunch of Aussies, here, and folks I used to work with, and hands down everyone says the Australian Red Cross; they're spending the money on aid, and they're not turning people away for religious/political or other reasons.

https://www.redcross.org.au/Donations/onlineDonations.asp

There's a menu that you can use to select Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

On the right is an address for check donations:

Send a cheque or money order to:
Australian Red Cross
GPO Box 2957
Melbourne VIC 8060
AUSTRALIA

You'll need to indicate that the donation is for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

I'm going to look for alternate ways too: my Amazon contact tells me they'll put up a page to let people donate via Amazon, who will then pass the funds on to the Australian Red Cross.

ETA: I called the American Red Cross, who told me that any funds donated to the disaster relief fund go into a general pool. It's a worthwhile general pool, but both the American Red Cross and the Aussie RC have specifically told me that the only way to have RC donations earmarked for Victoria is to go through Aussie RC.
