First time staying up past midnight. (I remember that night very well, still. We kept going into the kitchen to the check the time. I think we made it just a few minutes past midnight before curling up and falling asleep!)

If you're including bad things I'll go with the first time someone I knew died.

A great one was the first time I felt like someone loved me, outside my immediate family.

I remember being really impressed with myself when I finally learnt how to tie my own shoelaces. And when I was older, my first school disco (age 10 I think, and not really a school disco, but it was the end of primary school so we all felt like grown-ups and there was no romance).

For a female, the first time getting her period. Of course, girls vary greatly in their emotional response to it. For some it's wonderful, others traumatic, others don't really care either way. But it certainly changes things a whole lot.

A chief event of life is the day in which we have encountered a mind that startled us.

Was there a second time then?

First day of college and realized the police officers weren't truant officers and they didn't care if you were in class or not.

When I learned unlike the movie Parent Trap I didn't want my divorced parents to get back together again.

The first time I was accused of being possessed by demons. I told him, "I'm not Mary of Magdala.

First time you almost drown trying to impress a girl.
First wet dream.
First time you get arrested for public intoxication.
First time you need medical attention for things you wouldn't have done sober.

(By the second time for most of those, the novelty has worn off.)

The first trip you take by yourself on mass transportation.

First time I realized my parents were willing to lie to me to get me to do what they wanted.

First time I was hit by a nun. You know, one of the brides of Christ?

First time driving a car solo.

First kiss.

First orgasm.

First auto accident.

First time someone tried to kill me in combat. He missed. I shot back.

First time I tried, unsuccessfully, to kill someone in combat. I missed he ran. I didn't admit it then but I was glad.

First child. Second child. First diaper change.

First parent's death. Second parent's death.

First time I had to have a pet put down. Actually it's always a first because it never gets easier.

One of the things I'll always remember is my Junior/Senior prom. Just...a wonderful time filled with all my closed friends, a gigantic bowl of M&M's and lousy music. Course, I went to both proms (my junior year and my senior year) And both were totally awesome!

Finding out that adults are just as stupid/scared/confused/greedy/selfish as you are - only they have tanks.

age 5-7, the same time I realized my dad cheated. That kind of took the thrill out of it.

The time I caught my first fish. The first time I out fished my dad. Going hunting for the first time. The first time someone complimented me about my singing voice. The first time a close friend died. Stopping the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade when I was two or three so I could get a hug from Bobby Westlund (he was a motorcylce cop and was riding at the head of the parade). The first time I saved someones life.

1968 - hearing that a friend's mother was arrested for violating the curfew that followed the Martin Luther King assassination
1969 - Watching the first moon landing on TV
