View Full Version : Blog Comment Blitz - 9th-19th Feb 2009

I enjoyed the comment blitz we did last year. I’d like to have one in February. I’m “stealing” Ashton’s (http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2598205&postcount=1) explanation of how the comment blitz works (hope that's okay Ashton).

What: Leave at least one comment at each other's blogs over a one-week period.

Where: Online. The URLs list will be at the end of this post.

When: February 9th (Monday) through February 19th (Thursday). We'll start sooner if we have enough people signed up sooner.

Why: Why not? And to find new readers for our blogs, and to find new blogs for us to read. And because it's fun. And because we all love having comments on our blogs. And because blog commenting is the new pink.

How:

Sign up by posting a response in this thread. Please indicate the name of your blog and the blog URL in your post. Please make sure your blog is of general enough interest - or that there are at least a couple of recent posts that are of general enough interest - that anyone on AW will find something to comment on. I'm looking for around 15 participants total.
Start commenting on the 9th of February at each of the blogs on the list (excluding your own). Leave at least one comment per blog, on any post you like. Comments that are supportive, constructive, and/or witty are much appreciated. [For anyone participating in an AW blogchain or other blogging event: comments in those other events do not count as Blitz comments. Blitz comments must be created separately.]
Finish commenting by or before February 19th.
Report back in this list. Come back to this thread and leave a note saying that you've finished. By signing up, you are committing to commenting on 14 blogs over a 10-day period (Feb 9th to the 19th). Please note that this will take both time and effort. If you aren't sure that you'll be able to do it, please don't ask to be added to the list. Thanks!

So who’s in???

Sounds like an interesting idea to read up on new blogs.

Is it one post per day per blog, or one post throughout the 14? Or something entirely different, that am missing?

escritora

It's one comment per blog in a ten day period. Unlike the the blog chain (which I enjoy doing and will participate in this month) you don't have to comment on a specific post. You can choose the post that piques your interest.

Does that make sense?

To clarify: One comment per blog any day of the ten day period?
More than one comment per blog, within a ten day period?

Sorry, If I am not getting this instantly. Just want to double check.

Ana, I think that you will need to post at least one comment in each of the participating blogs within the 10 day time period. If you want to post more comments in any blog, it is upto you. The requirement is that you post one comment in each of the participating blogs.

How does that work? I'm not familiar with the process.

Social bookmarking is a way to have a public bookmarks list. They all work a bit differently, but I'll use Stumbleupon as an example.

I have a special Stumbleupon button on my web browser. When I see a site/page I like, I hit the button to bookmark it. I add in a description of the site if I want. Then all my friends on Stumbleupon see the site. It will also be offered as a random selection to people who like that sort of site.

I'm not suggesting that people should sign up to bookmarking sites specially for the comment blitz. But those who are already members might want to bookmark a few posts (or the main page of the blogs). I know I often forget to bookmark interesting posts, so it's a good way to remind myself to do so.

Oh yeah, someone stumbledupon my site a few weeks ago and now I have a few others who have stumbled on it. I'm not quite sure how it all works, but I added myself as a fan of my own page (http://www.stumbleupon.com/url/www.lefrancophoney.com/). Is that a stupid thing to do?

I have a small suggestion. If possible, then in our blogs, we can just write a very short post (around 100 words) about Blog Comment Blitz - 9th-19th Feb 2009 and give link to all the participating blogs. This will help us to make our blogs stronger to the search engines and that will result into getting some more visitors.

bsolah
02-06-2009, 02:21 AM
I might tag something like that on the end of a post.

razibahmed

Benjamin,
You have got even a better idea than me. Yes, we can post the names and links of all participating blogs at the end of a normal post.

Ms Hollands
02-06-2009, 02:44 AM
I'd prefer not to link to a whole lot of blogs as they are unlikely to be related to the subject matter of my blog. I hope nobody is offended by this. I'd just be happy to comment on people's blogs and leave it at that.

bsolah
02-06-2009, 02:51 AM
Yeah, I guess that part is option.

Plus, I don't know how many people would feel comfortable linking me ;) They might have the CIA knocking on their door. "You know a Red?" :tongue

Cathy, I just tried posting a comment on your blog but I need a Wordpress.com account (I have Wordpress.org) or another account which I don't have. Is there any chance that you could add just a simple name and e-mail way of leaving a comment?

Cathy C
02-09-2009, 10:57 PM
I posted a question, but never mind. You're right I had missed a setting. It was requiring a Blogger account. It's set up for Anonymous and no verification for right now. Let me know if it still doesn't work.

I am not done yet, as I haven't been online in a while. I feel I will get to this during the weekend, so realistically posting on various sites for a 10 day period has not worked for me, as I haven't had the time at all to come on. If I post on those sites anyway during the last couple of days, will that still count? (I'd still very much enjoy posting on these sites)

P.S-Just seen that there was a deadline. Have I missed this completetly too? If yes, wow that was fast!

You're only expected to post once per site during the time. So commenting on all of them in the last few days is fine.

Well, I'm steadily getting through the list and I'm trying to leave constructive, thought-out comments. I'm pleased to say I've had some very lovely comments. There are only a couple of comments which I don't think have really been written in the spirit of discovering someone else's blog and commenting appropriately on the subject matter.

Something to consider is you're getting people who aren't your target audience. It can be difficult to comment on a blog outside your area of knowledge.

With that said, if you feel someone really crossed the line, you could PM them. I know I'd rather I was contacted if someone didn't like my comment.

Yeah, apologies to those who might stop by my blog. Some people don't like the political content but I think there might be some writing-related posts down further. I welcome comments on older entries too!

I think I got most people except for the blogspot ones coz they're blocked at work.
