Wall Street passed out $18B in bonuses in 2008:

All while having the hands out, quivering, to the Gov for bailout money. I especially like this quote:

The New York comptroller said it was unclear if the banks had used taxpayer money for the bonuses

Whaaat? Like it matters where the money came from? Or that it's even determinable? That's mindless accountant-think, and shouldn't be fooling anybody. They had X dollars (including the bailout money, which came ultimately from you and me) and chose to spend Y dollars of it on these obscene bonuses.

And you can bet they'll try to do it again this year, and are working on better ways of hiding it.

Sure because bonuses are tax write-offs.

What more could we expect putting $700 billion in the hands of a total incompetent like Paulson?

Congress rushed that package through, believing the banks when they cried wolf. The US taxpayer will be stuck with the bill. Every Representative and Senator who voted for the $700 billion should be thrown out of office, the sooner the better.
