This is probably in the wrong spot - if so, feel free to move it.

I heard on the news tonight that Brittney Spears will be receiving FOURTEEN MILLION DOLLARS to write a book!!!

I screamed, tore my hair and wept. No wonder we can't get our books published. Why, oh why do I bother?

Because, sadly --imo-- there will be millions of people ready, willing, and able to cough up the dough to pay for their copy of her book.

That money will more than cover her fourteen million, and probably subsidize a few other writers besides. Like Stephen King and JK Rowling and Stephanie Meyers and Dean Koontz and Danielle Steel and a few others I could name off the top of my head but I won't because you've probably gotten my point by now.

Sure, it sucks that we have to work harder. The truth is, I'd rather work harder, and I'd rather not have her life anyway, fourteen million dollar book deal or no.

In 1890 the same was said of the widow of General Grant being paid more than even a celebrity author to write a book.

I think your father. If he can use his duct tape to get Little Brit to your place, you're half way there. Just tell him to be careful taping her to wooden chairs...that stuff can remove the finish if you're not careful.

Is this like an autobiography deal?
How to screw up your career and still be famous?

Also you might want to check out 'A Mother's Gift' which was released in 2001 and apparently written by Britney and her mother.

Per the NY editors I've met and talked with, that Brittney book will fund a variety of new authors and niche books. People will BUY Britters' book, funding the publishing house enough to take a chance on a new or unproven author, to publish a book they love but they also know will only sell 5,000 copies, and so on.

Hate not the celebrity bestsellers for they shall fund your entry into the business.

If only I could remember his name. In the way back machine a certain publisher - big - gave a certain Georgia senator Newt something a bunch of money to write a spy adventure story. He wrote it, they read it, he had to give the money back.

But this was not a total travesty, I mean tragedy. I read a snippet from the book which appeared in Writer's Digest (for real) and was very encouraged in my own writing. This was about the time my then agent told me about using contractions in non-academic writing. Which was helpful.

Britney should do better. She is selling something that folks want to read.

Stupid books about stupid subjects will probably be bought by stupid people.

Please note that I did not say the book would actually be read.

I have no problem with Brittney Spears or any other pop-tart "writing" a book. Gimme some of that cash and I'd even volunteer to ghost write it.

If it weren't for all the popular trash out there how would we be able to properly appreciate the hidden treasures?

Britney is a public figure and like it or not we too aim to become public figures, this is the uglier side of fame IMO and I don't see what's wrong with talking about her book Feiss, if you don't like what some people are saying it's not worth it to get so upset you run away crying....

I like her music and I think she's misunderstood, but I don't care if she doesn't actually write the book-a good ghost writer can do just fine, besides she's busy with her life. It's not like she has nothing but time to kill, she's got a tour to support and kids to take care of, she's got a lot going on in her life.

I hate it when people just smear her name around calling her a train wreck, but I understand each of us are entitled to our own opinions. I agree with JeanneTGC it's the bigger books like this one that will help keep publishing alive. So don't knock it just because its not your cup of tea. ;)

The problem with that is the money could go to actual writers with actual ideas. Unless she's going to write about how she felt being a pornstar for pedophiles, who cares what she has to say?

I think Wayne K was referring to the school uniform in the ...Baby One More Time video, which mystifies me, as she was only 15 or 16 at the time of filming it, so was herself still a schoolgirl.

To be honest, I found that the only people salivating over that video were the media. Then of course, they criticised it for encouraging perversion & sexual precociousness in teenage girls. And of course, in the grand old tradition of the British press, they placed their stories and photos of Britney alongside rape reports and pictures of Page 3 model 'Crystal' who, we were informed, 'has just turned 16!'

The first thing I think of when I hear Britney Spears is writing a book is to compare it to when Paris Hilton wrote a book. I wasn't interested then, and I won't be when it comes out. It's just another way to market themselves and take advantage of whatever horrific thing they've been through due to being a celebrity. Whether it's videos of you boinking some guy or shaving your head, I don't think it needs to be followed up with a tell-all. IMO.

What the epic fuck? I just hate it when people recieve such large amounts of money to write a pointless book, when there are strugling authors who deserve it! That's why I get so pissed when I see celebrities get book deal. Tori Spelling, Chelsea Handler, etc. Hell, even Lauren Conrad got a book deal. What is she going to write about? Her favorite pair of shoes? Damn, this is irksome.

I don't need to do any such thing. The media plastered pictures of her as a kid all over the internet, dressed or not, so grown men could get their rocks off. Hannah Montana, Hillary Duff, Law and Order Special Voctims Unit, it's all for shit. BTW Law and Order SVU is now being spomsored by Viagra. They show eight year old kids describing graphic rape and molestation, it's sick.

Being a victim of childhood sexual trauma, I can tell you that I know what a pedophile is.

Anyone who drools over a 15 year old girl is sick, sick, sick. Normal, rational adults only get their rocks off when a girl turns 18, or 16 in a few select states.

Results vary depending on the amount of growth hormones they consume growing up.

(I'm so getting banned over this.)

Maybe I take myself too seriously, but I want my books and the books I read to draw a response. That's why I love to watch my wife read my chapters, she laughs and winces, and I can see what I do has an impact on her. Sure I want to be rich and all, but if I can affect one person it makes it feel like I did something. It's what I struggled with here:http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131173
