I am writing a Houston guidebook, and have a hard time finding digital street maps that I can download without copyright violations, I am willing to pay for the rights if it is reasonable.
Any suggestions??

Try the Convention & Visitors Bureau - All CVBs have their own maps and are usually willing to let those that are doing good with them (like a guidebook) to use them for copyright credit.

I'm not sure where to get maps, but I know that it may not be good to use a local bus map if you find one that can be used without copywrite issues. All the bus maps that I have seen have a small area on the map itself that states that it is "not to scale".

There have been a few times I was walking somewhere that the map said was in a spot and I found out that I had to walk another three blocks that were not pointed out on the map. X.x
