Indeed, confusing question -- on this message board we have many forums and sub-forums, split by genre/subject. And there's also our main site, AbsoluteWrite.com

Only one of the other forums is related to writing, but I stopped going there about six months before I found this one (see? I hadn't even found this one and the other one, I felt, was just not worth it). Nathan Bransford very kindly pointed me in the direction of this one and I've found it to be the most professional and supportive forum I've ever visited.
This isn't a very helpful post for finding other forums, but I felt the need to share.

I agree, April. I've been to other forums, started there as a matter of fact. They pale in comparison to AW.
Another thing that rocks about AW...don't necessarily have to stay on topic to be able to relate..
Backspace is great. (You have to pay a fee to join, but it's worth it. Plus, there's a five day trial period during which you can cancel if you decide it's not what you were looking for.)

I shopped a multitude of writer's forums before settling on AW. Too many others either get no traffic, have hideous color schemes or are too narrowly focused on specific forms of writing. With that said, I've been lurking at Accentuate Writer's for a little while. They seem to have an emphasis on online freelancing that appeals to me.
I have a general rule: Lurk for a minimum of three weeks before signing up. If I get bored, frustrated or angry before then, I've saved myself further effort.
