You've got a simple lock on the trunk of a typical car. You also have no key; you have a screw. Is it possible to break the trunk open? If yes, how so? If not, what would work?

Can you not fold the back seats down for trunk access?

You could always try to pop the lock out...I think that's how it's done when someone robs a car. Though that sort of thing is generally frowned upon. I doubt you're going to get anywhere with just a screw, though. Or do you mean a screwdriver?

Easy way would be a set of lockpicks, but I don't know anything about that.

Newer car models have a mechanism to open the trunk from inside; the tab is phosphorescent, making it easy to see it in the dark. Your villain might not have noticed it in the middle of the day (see second link below). Or he cut the cable, but there is enough left to spool it around a screwdriver to activate the mechanism.
