I was kidding around earlier (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=126590) and threatened to start a thread about this phenomena (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=vGjmDTvuNLM).

Then I remembered dancing in the school gym, with my sister of all people, during a dance contest in high school, and how we smoked the competition, taking first prize.

It was a big deal back then. It still is now, as we threaten to take the dance floor during family occasions. :)

Silver, I think we need video evidence of your ability to bust a move. (:

A recent discussion with my sister:

"This wedding sucks."

"Wanna leave?"

"No, let's hang out for a while."

After an hour or so, we get to dance. When we're through, no one's hanging around.

"Wanna leave?"

"Yeah, let's go."

"This wedding sucks."

"Yeah, I know..."

Wow. I'm all confused.

I thought Mr. Casey was black but noooooooo. How could he not be? It's a trick of some sort.

Now, you have a girl in your profile pic and a fish avatar.

Wasn't there a manly man in your avatar at one point?

If you won first prize you must be black, however, the manly man photo and the girl were/are both white.

Manly men don't like to Shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake their booty. Do they?

Mine also. It's a tough one to shake shake shake out of your system.

I think I've always had fishy avatars, except for a while when I displayed Morticia from The Adams Family.

The girl in the profile pic is a friend from AW. She always has her eye on me.

If you won first prize you must be black...
No, I'm all white. And to the surprise of everyone there, we beat out some very talented black and mixed couples.

Manly men don't like to Shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake their booty. Do they?
Are you kidding? Of course "manly men" like to shake their booty. How else do you think women can tell how well we can shake our stuff away from the dance floor? ;)

My sister and I, before we sprang into action at the wedding reception I mentioned yesterday:

There's some footage around, but I don't believe it's made it to YouTube yet. Usually, it's used as evidence to sway others from NOT inviting me to their parties. :D

Silver King, thank you for this thread. I played the video and it brought back more than I thought - I got up outta the walker chair (leg brace & all!) and *danced*!!!

I haven't danced - or even come close or even thought about it since the damned stroke several years ago. OMG, it felt good!

Now I'm off to find a video of "Stayin' Alive" so I can dance again.

PS You and your sister look fabulous - wish I could see you two dance...

Silver King

Thanks, Kate. I was just fooling around when I started this thread, never realizing it would prove therapeutic in any way. :)

Here's one version (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OCAjmuA1HDk) of Stayin' Alive you might enjoy.

I spoke to my sister earlier, and we talked about dancing in those days, and she said, "Remember when we used to do The Bump?"

That was a crazy dance, where you would jump and fling your butt in the direction of your partner. It didn't matter if you made contact or not, as long as your hips were moving.

Another tune she mentioned was The Hustle (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gFz2WkVAk38), which became a dance all on its own, but was easy to move to in any direction the dancer chose to shake.

(The memories are coming back fast and furious now!)

The shake shake bit of this thread, just reminded me of this song:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=j7zNlmzAo14&feature=related

"Shake, shake, shake, Senora, shake your body line
Shake, shake, shake, Senora, shake it all the time
Work, work, work, Senora, work your body line
Work, work, work, Senora, work it all the time

My girl's name is Senora
I tell you friends, I adore her
And when she dances, oh brother!
She's a hurricane in all kinds of weather

(Jump in de line, rock your body in time) OK, I believe you!
(Jump in de line, rock your body in time) OK, I believe you!
(Jump in de line, rock your body in time) OK, I believe you!
(Jump in de line, rock your body in time) Whoa!"

Tune! :D This song was in the movie Beetlejuice, in case anyone remembers it.
