As long as you read the instructions all the way through before you leave and pack the right stuff, you're okay. But if you're one of those "I'll deal with it when I get there" types, you could be in for a long swim. Twice. lol

My son says they changed the directions, and that they really used to say you should swim. But I'm wondering if that's true, because I chose the "by car" option, and I'm thinking perhaps the swimming comes up if you're walking.

Hmm...

The scientist in me is going to try this out. Back in a minute... :)

No swimming. They still recommend kayaking. But here's what it says at the beginning:

Walking directions are in beta.
Use caution – This route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths.

Um, yeah. I'd say so...

Most of the GPS zombies I know would follow these instructions to the bottom of the sea, literally.

"Kayak across the Pacific..."

So, how long did Google say it will take?

I think the walking trip takes about 135 days or something like that. The driving trip 35. Which seems to imply that you can only drive about four times as fast as you can walk. However, the kayaking trip is the same amount of hours, and that's the lion's share of the journey.

Rumor has it one manager where I used to work wrecked a rental car when his GPS told him to "turn right" and he did. Problem is, he was on a bridge....

I'd like to see someone kayaking across the Pacific in 35 days.... I'll have popcorn ready.

They did this for London to New York as well...they told you to swim that. Last time I checked, this particular bit of google comedy genius had disappeared. :(

I noticed that - I bet it's because some idiot actually tried it. Which is actually a pretty funny thought in itself....

Haha, yeah. I can see it:

Hey, what does it mean, swim? OK, so it can't be that far then, right? *jumps in the ocean*
