A terrible way to start the New Year ...
Fireworks on stage apparently caused a fire at one of Bangkok's top nightclubs, at least 59 people died and more than 100 were injured.
I'm especially moved because I know the area. I passed by the Santika club a couple of years ago but never actually went in. It's a huge place, and well known with locals and foreign visitors alike. They had nearly 1,000 people in last night.
As usual with nightclubs in Asian countries, it was too crowded, there were not enough exits or they were hard to find, etc.
