I'm running Photoshop 5.0... occasionally it will lose its inner child and refuse to retain the change to a .jpg file when I change the contrast setting to darken the image.

I've fixed it before by re-installing - but, of course, I need it NOW and the disk is home.

Any idea what's with this crazy thing?! :)

To my desktop. But it won't let me get that far. As soon as I adjust the contrast and tell it 'OK', the box closes and the jpg goes back to the brightness/contrast it was before I adjusted it - as though I'd never done a thing.

AW. A very nice place!
instead of changing the contrast setting on the brightness/contrast box try adjusting "levels" which allows you to do the same thing but with more control over which colors get changed. P.S. might allow you to save these changes. (Or you might also increase the contrast, manually, with dodge and burn.) Another thing you might do is reboot your comp, which may restore the default settings and correct whatever is out of whack. Good luck.
