I just realized, as I put away the three books I got for Christmas that I have a ridiculous number of books I have started, knew I'd love ( DO LOVE), that I just haven't finished.
I can read 2-3 books at a time, switching up for a change of pace, but lately this isn't working for me. I don't have time.
Most of my book reading is...well...listening lately. Long commute - audio books from the library.
So, the books I haven't finished:
(don't tell Patricia, she'll kill me) Lottery (I'm predisposed to liking this because it is such the type of story I would want to write and how do you not love Perry?) I recommended, then loaned this book to my mother. She adored it. I haven't gotten to the end yet - not because the book lost me, but I lost the time. (I should be reading this right now instead of posting shouldn't I)
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao (I know I love this one - Junot Diaz, Pulitzer Prize winner, with great lines like "Dude wore his nerdiness like a Jedi wore a light saber" - how could you go wrong? The voice is so strong, unique and the writing is brilliant. I would recommend it to everyone if I had gotten tot he end).
(don't tell Will, he'll kill me) Obedience. What a kick ass premise this is.
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (yep. A classic. I knew I wanted to buy this book. I started it. Can't wait to finish it. Why haven't I?)
Bill Bryson's Shakespeare The World Is a Stage - I love bill bryson - but I haven't even started reading this one.
and finally: First Fiction (Anthology of the first published works of famous writers - Recommended to me over a year ago by William Haskins - it's gotta be good) I've read several of the stories, I just haven't gotten through the 400 pages between Fitzgerald, Capote, Faulkner, Hemingway, Vonnegut and Williams.
What's wrong with me? THese are amazing books. I know they are. Maybe I'm just not the reader I thought I was. Or maybe I have far less time than I realized.
What's on your shelf you wish you'd finished?
