Quote
Miekle earns pennies from writing, that's why he's had to move to the
tundra to take a research job. What's more, his work is deemed low
brow where Reggie Oliver's is intellectual. Indeed, when astute
critics speak of important contemporary writers, those in the know
cite Robert Aickman, Thomas Ligotti and Reggie Oliver. Those with less
genre knowledge cite less talented but better-know authors such as
John Conolly ad Ramsey Campbell. But what is absolutely certain is
that no one (excpet for you) cites Willy Miekle, the author of the
most cliched, derivative drivel imaginable.

The only positive thing to be said for Miekle is that he is prolific.
This, coupled with the fact that there are a lot of low brow readers
out there, ensure that at least some of his work gets into print. But
please, don't ever try to cite him as a successful author. His income
from writing is probably a few hundred quid a year and the critical
acclaim he receives from his peers is virtually non-existent.

Well that sucks blankety blank blank blanks. :( :Hug2:

The person who wrote that is obviously a looser who is jealous of your success.

somewhere, out there
Wow, someone sounds bitter.

My mother always told me, "If you can't say something nice, . . ." Looks like somebody's mother didn't do her job.

Here's my response:

"William Meikle's short stories and novels are shining examples of what is missing in horror fiction today: atmospheric in style, old-school in character, with an intriguing story to be told. Utmost use is made of the author's native Scotland in many of his tales, and his forays into the Cthulhu Mythos stories are original in concept, building on Lovecraft's works. " - David Wynn, Mythos Books

"Aims for pure entertainment, and hits the mark. A confident and breathless romp through an alternative Jacobean history. Whilst not for the squeamish... this book continues to deliver entertainment of high calibre. - Simon Morden, VECTOR

"Meikle has an engaging, sturdy prose style. And his familiarity with the terrain and culture of his setting contributes to a lively tale, where the inevitable bloodshed has more of an old-fashioned Richard Matheson feel to it than a Stephen King texture." Asimovs SF Magazine

"Takes the reader on an escalating ride of terror. Full of intriguing subplots, you hang on for dear life, hoping to discover the truth. Meikle does a fine job with delivery" - Nancy Kilpatrick, Author of The Power of the Blood series

"A gem of a book...essential reading if you are literate, and if you want the vampire genre to grow beyond stagnant velvet clad fops." - Shirlie Leighton for Bite Me Magazine

"Meikle makes the most of his setting, using its isolation to strong effect. Many fears come into play; agoraphobia, claustrophobia, acrophobia, as well as fear for ones own life and the lives of loved ones. His solid prose commands attention right from the start and carries the reader straight through to the climax." Garrett Peck for Cemetery Dance Magazine

"Meikle is a writer that can grace the page with words of beauty whilst twisting a nightmare into grotesque shapes before your eyes." Len Maynard and Mick Sims

"The Watchers saga is a dark and exhilarating medieval adventure that just keeps getting better with each new installment." Dark Realms Magazine

"Willy Miekle, the author of the most cliched, derivative drivel imaginable...the critical acclaim he receives from his peers is virtually non-existent." Chris Barker, USENET

Wait-- You're making a "few hundred quid a year" ???

I know some "successful" writers who'd be happy to trade places with you.

success being one of those odd, relative things

Am not sure who first stated this.....but, there is no such thing as bad press.

Rest assured, even with this some will read your things just to see if what this jerk said is true. lol

Copy and Paste this in your scrapebook of reviews and look at it at least once ever year. As you keep making the quids just keep in mind that out there somewhere is someone that has a bit of a problem with others having success.

I think a severed horse head might be in order here.

Just don't write that! Then you would be the most cliches writer ever. Nobody ever survives ripping of Puzo.

Well, at least someone's thinking of you...but his words might have had more impact if he's paid attention in second grade and learned how to spell.

I'd say you should send him a blow-up doll or something, because he seriously needs to get laid. Added bonus points for him: the doll won't care that he has rotting teeth, sour breath, can't wipe himself properly, and still lives with his mother.

Just came across this thread. 6 years ago this week. 6 years in which I've made a full time living from writing, so the 'writer' of the screed in the OP can kiss my hairy Scottish arse.

Far too personal to be a real review. Just some a-hole who is desperate enough to want to knock someone down. It's a little bit creepy, though. Comes across as having or developing a bit of an unhealthy fixation.
