This message has been deleted by Celeste (http://absolutewrite.com/forums/member.php?u=1546). Reason: Dumb post...

Um, Celeste? I don't know if you noticed, but all of the posts on this thread seem to fit in that category...

Anyhow, I'd use a biblical name for my papal name. Something like, I dunno, Pope Ruth I.

Whaddya think?

Golly, I don't know.

In a novel I never finished (nor, really, started), about an American deacon who is elected Pope and imports his Jewish wife and teenage son to the Vatican, he calls himself Penitent.

I suppose I'd go for the tried-and-true: Pope Joan II.

Oh, but you're looking for silly names. I promise I'll check back when I think of one.

Silly pope name - Pope Obstinant. It fits my nature.

Of course, since I was already named for one of the Twelve Apostles, so I don't see anything wrong with the name of Pope Matthew.

In the Old Testament, there was a guy who married Ruth. What was he before he married Ruth?

Ruthless

But if I were Pope, I'd abdicate in favor of Floo, the 32nd generation. He would then be called Floo32.

(Floo is from the land of Dodo - where all mythical creatures completely bypassed evolution. All creatures there were severely smart because of it. Floo however, was flicked for so many years at Kalamazoo he never quite recovered. They named his condition after him. In fact they named the country after him. Dodo)

Watch for low-flying Dodo's. They can't see too well.
