...so goes the election?

I read recently that the pre-Election Day Washington (D.C) Redskins game is highly correlated with the election result: If the Redskins win, the incumbent President's party wins the election. If they lose, the challenger candidate wins.

Tonight, the 'Skins host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With 0:54 to go in the game, the score is...

Redskins....6
Steelers...23

Big night for Barack? We'll see. Play the full sixty minutes, boys!

ETA: And that's the final score, folks.

Hmmm. Turns out the Redskins game foretold the election results from 1936 - when they first played as the Redskins in Washington. . . .

. . . up until 2004, when Kerry didn't hold up his end of the deal.

So, was '04 an anomaly, or is the run at an end?

2004 was an anomaly.

And my friends did not understand why this Redskin Fan was happy the Steelers won.

PS...two and 1/2 hours in line. Last election I walked in, voted and was out in 15 min....because NOBODY WAS THERE.

PPS...

The Redskins are going to do things to Dallas that I wouldn't wish on a flouncer.

Ok..so I lied about the flouncer!

Ah, yes. Normal service is resumed.

In a related story, the Detroit Lions have a similar record: Every year they've made it to the Super Bowl, the Whig candidate is elected.

Where have you gone, Barry Sanders? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you...
