So... I'm 6'4", a deceptively slim 220 pounds... and big roaches all but paralyze me with fear.

Over the weekend I bought the new, exceptionally well-reviewed video game Fallout 3, and about 20 minutes into it you have to fight giant, radioactive roaches ("radroaches") that are rendered with astonishing realism.

That was it. I had to return the game for an exchange. I really wanted to play this game, I've been looking forward to it for some time, but no way I could deal with it. I tried, and after the waves of goosebumps made it feel like my skin trying to slide off of my body, I had to put it down. I couldn't deal with it.

So um, yeah... that's my big phobia confession. Yours?

I'm deathly afraid of video game fighting. Well, not afraid exactly, but I get really nervous before fighting something.

Like when I was playing Zelda. Every battle freaked me out terribly!

I spent my childhood insanely afraid of thunderstorms and anything that even remotely resembled thunder and/or lightning. The merest sight of a darkening cloud would have me in an absolute panic. I haven't really gotten over it so much as gotten better at hiding it. Although I no longer freak when I hear something like chairs moving around overhead in the cafeteria above the lobby.

I have a driving phobia bad enough that I will get behind the wheel only when absolutely necessary. People are generally surprised by that because I am not exactly a nervous sort of person and have no other phobias.

I'm deathly afraid of video game fighting.

I get all tense during video games where there is suspense and fighting. My brother makes horrid fun of me, and even I know it's stupid.

But face me with a slug and go all girly.

Slugs gross me out something fierce as well. Tons of other things don't bother me, but slugs are...sluggy.

How bad is it that I don't trust you near enough to click on that link?

I was so hopin' you wouldn't click on it. I wouldn't trust Ray that much either.

I get claustophobic on bridges. Specific kinds of bridges. Like this one I had to cross every day when I was going to elementary school. I had nightmares of the school bus plunging off the side, into the water, where we'd all drown. The one I went across was the one at the top of the picture...

Heights. Gives me a feeling down yonder like I'm pulling my nads way up into my abdomen.

I've never had to drive across a long bridge covering a large body of water. I have no problem crossing if someone else is driving, but the idea of being the actual driver on such a bridge gives me pause. I don't know if it's a real phobia for me or not as I've yet to encounter the situation, I might respond perfectly fine, but I understand where you're coming from...

Wasps do it for me. Horrible, vindictive little sods, they are! I am still trying to work out just where they fit into the great Circle of Life. I am convinced their only purpose is to terrorise women when they are hanging washing on the line, or stinging unsuspecting children who bite into ice cream cones. Yes - they DO do it on purpose, and no one will convince me otherwise. :D

Driving is about the only way I can get across them without curling up in the fetal position on the floorboards. Seriously. I nearly break the DH's hand and keep my eyes closed, fighting off nausea the whole way across if I'm not driving.

Weirdly, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge doesn't do this to me. Probably because it's not enclosed, and it's so close to the water that it almost feels like you're driving right across the top of the water. No distance to plunge, kwim? LOL

Spiders. I don't know why, but I can barely breathe when I see a really big one. And the last time I woke up to one over my head I had to rip the bedroom apart to make sure it was 'safe' before I'd sleep in there again. Nothing remotely rational about it. I have no problem with slimies or stingies, I've "rescued" my husband from snakes more times than I can count, blood doesn't bother me - but if it's got more than 6 legs I want it dead, dead, dead.

I'm a walking phobia. Claustrophobic. Fear of heights. Fear of flying. Fear of crowds. Fear of women. Fear of public speaking. Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of being buried alive. Fear of zombies (saw Night of the Living Dead at age 12 in the theater). Fear of the dark. Fear of monsters in the closet and under the bed and in the basement. Fear of driving on the freeway in rush hour. Fear of the unknown. Fear of being caught naked outside with the door locked. Fear of having my throat cut while I sleep.

But bugs and spiders and snakes. No problem.

I honestly can't think of anything. Some bugs gross me out, but nothing so much that I can't look at them or--

oh wait.

Sunfish.
