No Story, No Plot No Idea

riteideas

I have decided not to even think about a new story until 12:00am. I want to see if it’s possible to get a complete story just by sitting down with a blank page and scratching for a month. I was wondering if anyone else is doing the same thing.

*raises hand*

But not by choice. I do have a character in mind, but that's it at this point.

Go you!

I've not done a whole lot of outlining. I do have the beginnings of a story line, and a few sketchy characters, though. I gleaned those from the NaNo dares thread and my own rather sketchy life.

There's a local woman who's famous for her outlining every year. I mean, 3x5 cards, the whole deal. This year, she's doing the "by the seat of my pants" method, too. We're all curious how she does.

I also have no real idea of what I'm going to do. I have a very basic character outline and story idea . . but beyond that a whole lot of nada.

No ideas at all? I mean, not even the seed of an idea? Wow. Not sure I could do that. But I definitely don't outline.

Good luck!

I have decided not to even think about a new story until 12:00am. ...
I wonder if this might have the opposite effect subconsciously. As in I'm wondering what animals will show up in mine:

"Don't even THINK of a pink elephant until after midnight!"

:D

My first year I didn't have my idea until Nov 4th, and I still managed to win. While the writing is complete crap, the skeleton of the novel is pretty good. It came together well for me, so I'd say you can do it.

I went onto the NaNo forums and found some writing prompts.

I've never outlined a thing in my life and don't plan on starting now.

I'm a little scared but also excited at what will fall out of my brain.

Oh, I'm pretty good at not thinking.

I have the beginning outlined. I have other scenes and events and things that might work in mind. I do have the characters pretty much created in my mind, which is good.
This is my first NaNo and the first fiction writing I have done in years, so we'll just have to see how it goes, I guess!

I actually got a lot of insight by filling out the "Novel Info" at NaNoWriMo. I thought, "Damn- what the hell am I writing about again?"
It made me think about it. LOL

I have a lot of the beginning sketchily sketched out. Some of the details are filled in, but there are other crucial elements that I still don't know, even for very early scenes.

Wow. I bow to you guys; I wish I could do that, but I think I'd choke.

I'm actually outlining a lot more than I planned to. But it's rather necessary, since I'm collaborating with someone, and we agreed to agree on our story beforehand. *cough*

I'm pretty happy with the first half of my outline - I think the story threads compliment each other. After that...
