This is me. Totally out of it.
I walked into Dunkin' Donuts this morning to get a coffee and asked myself, "Why is there a nun working behind the counter?" I mulled on this for a few seconds, and then surmised, 'It must be a Muslim woman," but then said, "No, muslim women don't dress like nuns."
Swear. And then it clicked.

I think it was because she was the first Halloweenie I saw today - and I'd been disconnected with the holiday up until that point - that it took my mind a few minutes to register it.

*Comes in dressed in black jacket, white shirt, black trousers and leading a doberman*

What? I am in costume. Ever see the video of "One Thing Leads To Another?"

*Remembers this didn't work so well back in 1984, either...*

ETA - I was notorious for coming up with what I thought was a wicked cool Halloween costume and having absolutely nobody realize I was dressed up as anything other than me. me and a friend really did try dressing up like Cy Curnin and Jamie West-Oram from the video, but it totally lost the point - especially since we couldn't find a doberman to borrow and ended up with a St. Bernard...

:partyguy:

I just participated in the Halloween Parade at work. I came as Judge Judy. I was right between a saloon gal and a gynecologist. One co-worker dressed as a tree, and the gynecologist had to help fix her costume. ;) One guy came as a Spork, and another came as a mother carrying a bearded baby. (My mind is still altered from seeing that costume.)

P.S. Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining.

I was at the Social Security office for two hours this morning. They lost all of my son's files. All of it. I was waiting for them to yell, "Trick or Treat!" hand out candy and tell me it was a Halloween joke. No such luck. So I'm very ready to party, people!

I think there should be a rule that people who don't dress up at work have to give candy to the people who do dress up!

My boss is dressed up as Velvet Jones, Pimp Daddy (leopard print jacket, zebra cane, pointy boots, red fedora, purple feather boa. I work in a nuthouse. However, compared with some of the real houses of horror I've worked at, nuthouse is infinitely better....

*Looks around at her doberman, who is begging treats and belly rubs from the rest of the thread.* You're supposed to be acting vicious, you know....

I worked for a company where one of the founders came in on Halloween dressed in a cow costume, complete with udders. This was before they had a company-wide Halloween parade, so no one else came in costume. He just thought they needed cheering up. :) Sadly, he had passed away before I joined the company.

But they did continue Halloween festivities. On one of my favorite Halloweens, I came dressed as Glenn Gould, complete with long black coat, hat, scarf, and gloves. The building was cool, so I figured it wouldn't be so bad. And wouldn't you know it? They decided to turn the heat on that day? :tongue But it was fun, and my co-workers recognize the look, so it was worth it.

I have a Dumbest Things Ever Said calendar, and today's is a classic. It's an actual newspaper headline that says:
Doctor Testifies in Horse Suit

mscelina

I just got back from the doctor's office and the obligatory visit to the pharmacy just after. Realize that I've spent many a Halloween in costume--almost always under protest. But I have never loved my job enough to go to work dressed as an Oompa Loompa from the Burton version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I gave her a candy bar. I couldn't help myself.

10-31-2008, 10:14 PM
Yeah, here I'm one of 6 (out of nearly 200) who are dressed up. Bunch of party poopers.

I miss the job where it was corporate policy that you dressed up. The owners/bosses took everyone out to a fancy expensive restaurant for lunch. The other sales guy came, in regular clothes and was escorted out of the restaurant by a clown (VP of Marketing).

*Takes off blonde wig* Y'know, if I just tell everyone I'm Jamie West-Oram instead, it'd be easier. At least he has sort of the same kind of long fluffy dark hair that I do...

I think the last time I dressed up for Halloween at work, I dressed up at the fourth Doctor Who - as in Tom Baker with the ginormous scarf. I even had a fourteen-foot version of the scarf that I'd crocheted. To this day I don't know how I didn't kill myself trying to traipse around in it.

I moved into a new neighborhood, and I should have asked the neighbors how much candy to buy. I didn't have as many as I expected -- a good stream, though.

I bought scary candy -- gummy thumbs, noses, and ears; gummy spiders; plus gummy bones. I ended up giving big handfuls of candy to the last few Trick-or-Treaters because I didn't want to get stuck with leftover body parts and bugs.
