With all of those double bonds, it certainly is poly-unsaturated.

Normal is the opposite of abnormal.

I don't know. I'm still trying to figure it out. And is it normal to wonder about what is normal. Or is it abnormal to think one is normal, or is it normal to think one is abnormal.

*Goes off to ponder this, while searching for the schnapps bottle in the freezer*

an acronym most likes.
N probably stands for National
O, maybe for Organization
R, for ...

That brings a couple of things to mind. Well, maybe more than two.

One thing I heard was "Normal is a setting on a washing machine." That statement was used to dismiss other meanings of the word.

Then there was the guy who wouldn't even admit to knowing that. Whenever the word came up in conversation, he would interrupt and say "I don't know what the meaning of normal is, I just don't have any clue." No, he wasn't stupid (at least not in the sense of unintelligent), he was just being obstinant. I really wanted to beat him over the head with an unabridged dictionary.

Anis has the "right" (no, maybe it's the "left") idea. If you drop the a, you get NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws:

It looks like some sort of bizarre equation to me.
It could be a statement in some computer programming language.

Firstly L is subtracted from A, that's assigned to M, then to R, then to O, and finally to N. And if this is part of a larger expression, the assigned value is passed on to that, too. That should work in APL as-is, and if you add a semicolon at the end it also works in C and C++. It probably works in more modern languages too, but I'm an old fart and haven't learned those (hey, at least I know they exist).

I'm sure this is more than anyone wanted to know.

You guys are all weird.

Normal is what you make of it.

I have never used this word before, as I don't believe in the usage if I were to use it.

I actually dumped a guy for being too 'normal' once

yeah call me shallow, but is he really gonna cope with a manic depressive with odd tendancies? I don't think so...I was doing him a favour, bless.

I like weird people, but then Brits have always loved a good eccentric.

Normally, NORMAL is a slight deviation from an otherwise normal conformity. So, it follows that NORMAL is both different and the same.

Normal is what we think everyone else is. And what we wonder why we arent.

I hope that clears everything up for you.

Since the frequent definition of insanity, or since the funding got cut the definition of insanity is anyone who is a danger to him/herself or others, everything else therefore must be normal.

Well, finally got some use out of those flippin' philosophy classes.

Typically, normal means average, standard or regular. Or perpendicular.

Huh. I've heard and used that phrase many a time, not to dismiss other meanings of the word, but to assure the person worrying about whether they are "normal" or not that being unique and different from other people is not something to get one's knickers in a twist. Normal is boring and uninteresting like the setting on a washing machine. :)
