I published my first novel, The Ghosts of Silence without an agent, since then I've had quite a few publishing credits both online and in print. Does this help my chances of getting an agent for my next novel, or do they not care about short stories getting published?

Yes and no

I'd say that publishing credits like short stories look good in that it shows you're serious about your craft and want to get published. But to be honest, unless you have credits on your resume like The New Yorker or Esquire magazine, an agent really won't take those into consideration when deciding to take you on as a client. Selling the work you send them is what's going to bring in their paycheck.

So again, while it can't hurt to have those credits, it's not going to hold any doors open if your submitted work isn't 100%...
