The Art of Life Writing: Gaining Momentum

A workshop for women who are underway on a life-writing project—a story or essay about yourself or people you know.

Sign up for the workshop only or make a weekend of it by staying over at The Listel Hotel (full Weekend Package details are below workshop description).
Are you . . .
  • partway through your life-writing project?
  • ready to begin revising your life-writing project but aren’t quite sure how to go about it?
  • not sure what material to put in and what to leave out?
  • not sure what the focus of the writing is?
  • losing steam on your project?
  • worried that certain sections are flat or dreary, and you can’t figure out why?
  • thinking of getting feedback and wondering if you should?
  • wondering how to use feedback?
  • in need of a jump-start to get back into the project or to feed your writing momentum?
If you are at any of these points, and you need practical advice and enjoy working in a supportive environment with experienced instructors and other women writers—this workshop is for you! We will do individual and group writing exercises, and discuss process and strategies.

This is a hands-on workshop, so bring your life-writing work-in-progress with you, on paper or on your laptop.

You will pick up tips and techniques for gaining (and regaining) momentum in your writing, including some great takeaways for ongoing work on your project.

Workshop leaders: Mary Schendlinger, Senior Editor of Geist magazine and teacher of writing and publishing at UBC and SFU, and C.E. Coughlan and Sarah Maitland, editors at Geist.
